THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD RELATIONSHIPS IN THE OFFI C
E
All the organizations need people, equipment and other resources to function successfully. Good
Interpersonal relationships. Books are essential to teamwork in the org, and are beneficial to the
individual as well as to the org. They enable the employee to make the maximum contribution to
meeting the organization’s objectives, and allow the employee to mature and achieve their goals
as well as the organization’s mission. They also ensure that the Customer and the business get
the B E S T P E R F O R M A N C E from the employee. They need positive interpersonal
relationships to achieve good teamwork in the organization. These relationships are essential to
individual development as well as organization’s success.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH SUPERVISORS
Supervisors are employed to set objectives for their staff and ensure that those objectives are
met. The objectives will, of course, be part of the larger objectives of the organization as a
whole. Supervisors must deal fairly with each worker, praising and encouraging those who
perform well, and advising and guiding those who do not conform to expectations.
All members of staff must therefore see to it that they respect their supervisor. They must also be
willing to talk to their supervisor openly if they are having any difficulties with their work,
personal life, or other colleagues in the office. In this way, solutions to problems can be arrived
at by mutual consent and cooperation.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH COLLEAGUES
In dealing with other colleagues on a day-to-day basis, an employee should show respect for the
suggestions and effort of others, acknowledging the positive, making tactful alternative
suggestions when necessary.
Figure 1
Relationship with colleagues
In terms of helping other colleagues, those who are more capable will be committed to assisting
those of less competence. Older staffs who are more experienced would be expected to assist
newcomers in acquiring the necessary degree of skills to do their jobs properly. Newer and
younger staff would be required to show to their elders, and appreciation for any assistance
obtained.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH CUSTOMERS
Clearly, it is key to the successful function of a business that workers always present a positive
image when dealing with customers, suppliers and enquiries from outside the office. This
relationship is necessary to make customers feel satisfied and confident in what is offered to
them. These are the external customers.
Figure 2: Relationship with customers
The employee must also relate to internal customers –
other departments and management, for example, within
the business. These are the people to whom you must
respond, with whom you must communicate and with
whom you work as a team. Internal customer’s
satisfaction has a ripple effect which reaches the
external customers. It is important to have a good
relationship with the internal customers to provide them
with services, products or information to help them do
Their
jobs efficiently
so that good external customer core will result.
