TITLE: Investigating I-V Relationship
AIM: To investigate the I-V relationship of a filament lamp.
THEORY:
Explain the term I-V relationship and what it demonstrates.
What do I-V characteristic curves used to determine?
State Ohm’s Law and express it mathematically using an equation. Explain the equation.
MATERIALS AND APPARATUS:
Rheostat/ variable resistor
Filament lamp
Three Batteries
Ammeters
Voltmeters
Connecting wires
A switch
Stationery
DIAGRAM :
The diagram above shows how the various components were connected
METHOD:
1. The circuit was set up as shown in the diagram with the rheostat set at maximum.
2. The current, I, reading was recorded from the ammeter and the voltage, V, on the
voltmeter was also recorded.
3. The rheostat was adjusted in order to obtain seven more pairs of current and voltage
reading over the widest possible range.
RESULTS:
The table below shows the results obtained from the experiment

GRAPH:
Title: Graph of Current, I against Voltage, V.
DATA ANALYSIS:
Calculating the gradient of the graph:
m = y2 –y1
x2 – x1
m=
A
V
m=
A/V
The gradient of the graph is 0.09 AV-1
DISCUSSION:
The gradient,m, of the graph represents
m = quantity plotted on the y - axis
quantity plotted on the x – axis
= current

Therefore, the gradient represents I
