UNITED NATIONS CASE STUDY ANALYSIS
Objective:
Students will effectively prepare for and read case studies from the United Nations
website to enhance their understanding of real-world controversies and the UN's role in
addressing them.
*DIVIDE THE CLASS INTO 6 GROUPS
*SELECT A DOCUMENTER AND A PRESENTER (1-2 PRESENTERS ARE
ALLOWED)
*THE REST OF THE MEMBERS WILL WORK AS RESEARCHERS
MECHANICS:
1. Accessing the UN Website
Students must access the link to the United Nations website (www.un.org).
Navigate the relevant sections for case studies, reports, and documents. Choose
one Issue or campaign. You can also choose the latest report of the UN from any
news/media press releases.
2. Selecting Case Studies
Each group should select a specific case study from the UN website that relates
to their assigned controversy. Encourage them to look for:
1. Official reports or resolutions
2. Press releases or statements from UN officials
3. Background information on the conflict and UN responses
3. Reading and Note-Taking
Read the selected case study thoroughly, taking notes on key points. You should
focus on:
1. The context of the controversy
2. The UN organs involved and their specific roles
3. Actions taken by the UN and the outcomes
4. Any criticisms or challenges faced by the UN during the process
4. Discussion within Groups
After reading, each group should discuss their findings. They should address the
following:
What surprised them about the UN's involvement?
Were there any notable successes or failures?
How did the UN's actions align with its mission and values?
5. Drafting a Summary
Each group will draft a concise summary of their case study analysis based on
their notes and discussions. The summary should include:
1. A brief overview of the controversy
2. Key UN organs involved
3. Summary of actions taken and outcomes
4. Lessons learned or recommendations for future actions
6. Creating Visual Aids
Groups will create visual aids (such as charts, graphs, or infographics) to
complement their posters. These visual elements should illustrate key data or
timelines related to the case study, making it easier for their peers to understand
the information presented.
GOODLUCK!
