Task Requirements
Working individually, you will tackle three (3) case study problems sourced from the prescribed textbook,
which spans the topics from weeks 1 to 2. You must exhibit proficiency in descriptive statistics, visual
analytics, and regression analysis. Your conclusions should be presented in a report that does not exceed
1,000 words. For each of the case studies, a brief discussion pertaining to the problem should be provided,
complemented by tables and graphics.
The following case studies should be completed:

A.
Explain how a tree-map may be used to help with resource allocation and outsourcing
decisions at the strategic level.
Assume that an engineering company has with 3 ongoing projects all involving design,
construction and assembly. The construction tasks (alone) can be outsourced to take
advantage of lower labour costs by 50%, but it introduces additional communication and
shipping costs (10% + 15%). Assume the percentage of constructions cost across projects
vary substantially. Come up with an appropriate scenario and explain through a diagram (or
interaction through a dashboard) how senior managers may be helped to decide whether
to outsource parts of some projects.

Task Requirements
You need to select a company or a business process in a company and collect relevant data about a problem
to build a descriptive analytical model. In your descriptive analysis, you need to provide insightful knowledge
about the company or the business process and propose a solution for the problem. Examples of companies
and business processes are:

This is a team project. Every team should consist of 3 to 5 students (preferably 4). You need to
finalize your team by end of week 3.
•
You need to justify the reason for selecting a particular business process based on team
background, experience, current threats to businesses, data availability as well as how and why
business analytics can help make better business decisions from different perspectives
(profitability, competition faced, sustainability, customer satisfaction, etc.)
•
Your presentation should include an interactive dashboard the managers can use to drill down
into the data allowing them to make informed decisions.
•
Only one member of the team should submit the report and presentation file on Moodle. Only MS
Word and PowerPoint files are accepted. Your report should explicitly state the contribution
made by each member (tasks carried out) and the parts of the report written by each
member.

The report should be prepared based on a standard, professional format (i.e. Introduction, Body,
Conclusion). Good use of visuals should be seen throughout the report and presentation.

The assignment entails producing a written analysis of 2000 words along with an accompanying
presentation. The task is to analyse contemporaneous business issues utilising advanced statistical
techniques and software.
