Group Activity: GMO Products Across Three Countries
Objective: Foster international-mindedness by analysing the policies, perceptions, and
regulations on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in different countries.
Instructions for the Activity
1. Group Formation & Country Assignment
Make a groups of 3-4 students.
Each group will research GMO policies and public opinions in three different
countries (one from each category below):
o
High GMO Adoption (e.g., USA, Brazil, Argentina)
o
Regulated GMO Use (e.g., European Union, Japan, China)
o
Strict GMO Restrictions or Bans (e.g., Russia, India, Switzerland)
2. Research & Analysis (30 minutes)
Each group will investigate and compare:
Government Policies: Regulations on GMO cultivation, labeling, and imports.
Public Perception: How the public views GMO products (supportive, skeptical, or
opposed).
Scientific & Economic Impact: How GMO use (or restrictions) has affected
agriculture and trade in these countries.
Ethical & Cultural Perspectives: How cultural or ethical beliefs influence GMO
acceptance.
3. Presentation & Discussion (5-7 minutes per group)
Groups will present their findings in a creative format (poster, slide deck, role play, or
debate).
Each group must highlight differences and similarities among the chosen countries.
Encourage discussion by asking:
o
How do these policies impact global trade and food security?
o
Should there be a universal approach to GMO regulations?

4. Reflection on International-Mindedness (5 minutes per group)
Each group will answer:
How do different nations’ approaches to GMOs reflect their cultural, economic, and
ethical values?
Why is it important to consider multiple perspectives when discussing global
scientific advancements?
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of this activity, students should be able to:
-Understand how GMO policies vary across nations.
-Appreciate diverse perspectives on biotechnology and food security.
-Develop critical thinking about the balance between science, ethics, and policy in a global
context.
-Strengthen research, collaboration, and presentation skills.
