Hanumakonda District Profile Hanumakonda district carved out from Warangal District and located in the Northern region of Telangana State. The district borders the districts of Jangaon, Karimnagar, Warangal, Bhupalpally and Siddipet. The District headquarters is located at Hanumakonda. Hanumakonda district. The district is renowned tourist destination with existence of Thousand Pillar Temple and Warangal Fort. All the mandals were covered in the study and it was tried to cover all the municipalities along with the mandals. Total literacy rate of the district is 74.13% among Male literacy rate is 82.63% and Female literacy rate is 65.65%. Around 53% of the population is concentrated in Urban areas. 1.3 Resources: Resource mapping of Hanumakonda district is detailed in this section. The resources of the district are collated to better analyse future prospects in terms of employment generation. 1.3.1 Agriculture & Horticulture Resources: The major crops cultivated in the district are Paddy, Maize, Mango, Chillies, Cotton, Tomato and Turmeric. The Gross District Domestic Product of the district is Rs.14276 Crores in 2020-21 (at current prices). It may be observed that the growth story of Hanumakonda has witnessed continuous growth from the year 2017-18 and continued the growth phase in 2020-21. 1.7 Work Force Profile: The total workforce in the Hanumakonda district is 4.53 lakhs , out of 10.62 lakh total population. In the total workforce, 50% are Agri Labours & cultivators, 3% are household industry and the remaining 47% are working in the manufacturing and service sectors. The major industries in the district cover sectors such as Construction, Agriculture, Mining and Textiles. Resources majorly depict the sectors which have potential job opportunities. The survey undertaken was to study dominant and partial resources in the district, while dominant sector is expected to provide high employment, partial are the resources where the opportunities are comparatively lesser. The mapping was carried out by using the resources collected during secondary survey, primary survey that involved personal interviews of different stakeholders of industry, economy and skilling. One more sector that has dominant presence and opportunity for employment is Markets and Mandies, which need workforce to carryout free flow of operations. 1.10 Summary: It may be inferred from the chapter that, Hanumakonda has Agriculture, Construction and Mineral as a major contributor for workforce engagement. About 80% of workforce engaged in Agriculture and allied sectors. The availability of eligible workforce is also high in the district that is known as a prominent district impacted by outward migration of its population. With availability of resources, providing of suitable skills to potential migrants can create job opportunities within the district and the study has emphasised on identification of core sectors and job roles as part of Skill Gap Study of the district, that is detailed in subsequent sections. 14 Skill Gap Study of Hanumakonda District 2. Field Survey Analysis With the knowledge acquired through secondary research in the areas of resource availability, socio-economic profile of the district and high demand sectors, Andhra Pradesh Productivity Council (APPC) has initiated the primary survey. Total respondents of the primary survey were 677, spread across Establishments, Associations, Youth of the district etc. It was ensured that all the mandals are represented during primary survey. Distribution of the respondents is shown below. The category wise number of respondents is as follows; RESPONDENTS CATEGORY Educational Institutions; 39 Associations; 5 R&D Training Institutions; 2 Student; 252 Establishments; 161 Unemployed Youth; 218 Figure 4: Respondent Distribution 2.1 Survey Findings: Some of the information off-shoots collected during primary and secondary survey are listed below for establishing a base for undertaking detailed collection of the information and further analysis of the information collected. As per Telangana Socio-Economic Outlook 2023 Hanumakonda ranked 22nd position in Gross District Domestic Product with Rs. 14276 crores in the State. Hanumakonda ranked 16th position in Per-Capita Income with Rs.171111 in the State. As per TS-iPASS registrations from 2015 to Jan 2022, the position of the district are Number of Units: 15th place with 360 units Investment : 26th Place with 586 Crores Employment: 1st Place with 190884 persons According to Udyam Registration Portal till January 2022, the Hanumakonda ranked at 16th place with 3099 units. Around 47% of working population employed in Manufacturing and service sectors 15 Skill Gap Study of Hanumakonda District Mega Textile park located in Hanumakonda. Agriculture, Construction, Minerals and Textiles are the major industries operating in the district. Majority of the youth are aspiring to work in Healthcare, Life sciences, Agriculture, Food Processing, Management Entrepreneurship and Professional sectors. Low awareness levels on Entrepreneurship / Startup culture Around 42% of student community is willing to undergo trainings in the interested sectors. Salary is the Top Priority of the youth in Selection of Job. 61% of student community and 65% of unemployed youth are willing to migrate to get employment 34% unemployed youth felt that low employment opportunities available in the district. 57% of unemployed youth preferring Blended mode of training. Attrition rate is below 20% in 58% of the responding firms. The major reasons for attrition is Higher Expectations and Lower wages. Other State workers are working in 37% of surveyed firms, of which the portion is below 20% in 88% of respondents, the major reasons are work longer periods and Lower Wages. Majority establishments felt that Employment is increasing Y-O-Y 32% of the firms are recruiting through Job drives and 26% through referals 34% establishments expecting training to be innovative and collaborative than the technical skilling. The top 8 sectors identified based on the resources available, existing industries scenario, upcoming industry & infrastructure and aspirations of youth are Agriculture, Healthcare, Management Entrepreneurship and Professional, Life Sciences, Construction, Electronics & Hardware, BFSI and Food Processing. The awareness of the student respondents is high due to the research that they carried out pertaining to preferred job. Unfortunately, 10% respondents do not have knowledge regarding the skills that they would acquire after completing the course that they are pursuing. Awareness on skill trainings: AWARENESS ON SKILL TRAININGS In the survey, 33% said they were aware of skills training conducted by State and Central governments as part of various programs / projects. 42% were unaware of this. No idea; 25% Yes; 33% No; 42% Of the total Student respondents, 33% are aware about Skill Trainings being imparted by State and Central Governments and 42% do not have any information regarding the skill trainings being conducted. 19 Skill Gap Study of Hanumakonda District Inference from the responses is that the skilling sponsors, i.e., State and Central Government agencies operating skill training programmes have to conduct counselling of students regarding Skill Training programmes that are high priority social welfare programme of the governments. For skilling this is an encouraging outcome and when read with the above question of awareness regarding skill trainings, Skill Development Program sponsors, i.e., Government agencies can increase student participation in skill trainings by generating awareness among youth regarding SDPs. Through this, employable population can be increased to meet industrial requirements. Skill gap study being carried out at mandal level would enable students to choose career based on the local demand for the skills, which they can acquire by attending relevant training programmes. 2.3 Unemployed category survey findings The survey was conducted with 252 unemployed respondents, among 63% of respondents belonged to the age group of above 25 years. Of those respondents, 71% were Male and 29% were Female. About 15% are either 10th class or less than that, indicating the views expressed are by well-educated individuals, which can be considered as perception of the educated regarding skilling and employment opportunities. Unfortunately, opportunity to learn is the last priority, which would help the youth in long term. Skill training agencies need to work on shifting the thought process from short term to long term. Sector preferences of unemployed:Unemployed youth preferred Tourism & Hospitality, IT-ITES sector followed by BFSI, Management and Entrepreneurship & Professional and Agriculture. However, it may be observed that the district does not have major industries in the district. Which indicates that the unemployed youth need to be able to map their aspirations with that of the resources and industries available. It is found that ‘Salary’ is driving factor that influences a candidate in choosing a job. Summary of the finding and analysis are detailed below. Profile of Establishments:- ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD As per the survey, 43% units established in the period 2016-20, 32% units in the period 2010-15 and 19% units before 2010. Post 2020 6% 2016-2020 43% 32% 2010-2015 Before 2010 19% Of the establishments interviewed majority of them are the established in the period 2016-20. It was consciously chosen to cover majority of the establishments incorporated in these years, as recruitment of these establishments is comparatively higher and cover latest job roles. One of the reasons is non availability of job opportunities within the respective mandal or district. Due to this, workers usually continue to work in the jobs that they get. Skilling agencies may, based on skill gaps identified mandal wise, organise trainings to the local youth to impart required local industry related skills, to enable them to gain employment in local industries.
