the fastest growing ones. Its
production capabilities and market
potential influence all global
markets. European companies
recognize the potential of China
and business relationships are
developing. In this globalizing
world, having awareness,
knowledge and understanding of
Chinese culture, language and
business policies is an asset.
It is this asset that this minor aims
at. An intensive programme on
Chinese language, Chinese culture
and the Chinese business
environment, of course organised in
China’s most important and vibrant
city Shanghai.

A unique programme with a full semester of study in Shanghai
The Shanghai University of
Finance and Economics (ShUFE),
founded in 1917, is a top-ranked,
world-renowned research
university. As the oldest financial
university in China, ShUFE has
developed its own spirit over the
years. ShUFE places much
emphasis on being industrious,
having a consciousness of all
things economic, and making
contributions to society.
With ShUFE now increasingly
opening itself to the outside
world, it aims to showcase this
spirit as well as its outstanding
teaching quality.
Courses**
•Chinese Language (15 ec)
A comprehensive course on Chinese language (conversation, grammar, reading and writing.) The course includes
daily used words and expressions for survival in China and basic grammar used in writing and reading in Chinese.
•Chinese Culture (5 ec)
This course includes lectures on China’s Geography and Population, China’s History, China’s Traditional Philosophy,
China’s Education, and China’s Customs. It is designed to provide some background knowledge for understanding the
contemporary social and economic development of China. Students will have chances to experience Chinese culture
in study visits and tours.
•Chinese Business (10 ec)
This course includes lectures on the political, social, economic, cultural and historical factors which influence the
manner in which business is conducted within the People’s Republic of China, Greatest emphasis is placed on the
business project, contemporary developments and changes in China’s business practices. A real life assignment in
which a Chinese company seeks to establish a business relationship with a company in the Netherlands.
