Answer:
1. What is the central challenge or conflict described in the article, and how does it affect
the local communities?
economic hardship and it causes people to not be able to access basic human necessities
such as water and washing of clothes.
2. Which key groups or individuals are involved, and what roles do they play in the
situation highlighted?
humanitarian aid has not been distributed to people despite that it was meant to, the
government and police have not done anything to fix the begging as well
3. How has the international community responded to the events or issues raised in the
article, and why?
They haven’t changed anything and the humanitarian aid has been taken ‘out of the
mouths of civilians and selling it to fund its forces and enrich its cronies’
4. How have ordinary citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, been affected? They have
not been able to buy any water and/or food because the price is too high. Their living
wage cannot cover it and therefore even the cheap food is to high a price. They usually go
without.
5. Imagine you live in Damascus, write a diary entry for a day living their. Describe what
you experience.
Dear diary, today we went completely without water. Dad spent the day at the market
and got one customer.
We don’t have enough to wash our clothes, so I smell, and I haven’t bathed in a long
time. I am very hungry and thirsty, but I cannot complain because I have it better than
most others. We really need money though.
(many children probably do not know how to write or have enough money for a journal,
so it probably says nothing)
