COURSE DESCRIPTION (CATALOG)
Principles of Engineering drawing, lettering, dimensioning, orthographic drawing, pictorial
and sectional views. Introduction to computer aided drafting.
PREREQUISITE
NONE
LABORATORY AND COMPUTER USAGE
Students use AutoCAD and use the CAD laboratory to conceive the basics of graphics
language and drafting techniques.
GRADING POLICIES
Plates, CAD Applications
and HW: 80%
Final Design Project: 20%
CURRICULAR CONTEXT
This required course provides knowledge about the techniques of engineering graphics,
conventional drawing theory, conventional drafting, and computer applications for the use
graphic language and the use of AutoCAD.
SPECIFIC OUTCOMES OF INSTRUCTION
This course is designed for engineering students to make them familiar with the graphic
language, design process, biomimicry, and creative thinking. The course is also designed
for gaining an ability for problem solving, inquiring and questioning mind, ability to
concentrate and communicate, ability to synthetize, demonstrate input skills, presentation
skills, and time management skills, and learn design process.
COURSE OUTCOMES
1) Introduce an understanding of the Graphic Language and use of effective Graphic
communication method.
2) Introduce the use of drafting techniques and drafting equipment, and AutoCAD
applications.
3) Introduce the design concepts, design process and creativity techniques such as the
study of natural world, watching the web etc.
4) Encourage teamwork, collaboration and development of interpersonal skills.
5) Gain an ability to design a new product by the use of biomimicry.

This course is intended to contribute to the following program outcomes:
