What is this ePortfolio activity about?
This UU100 e-Portfolio Activity 2 (ePA-2) consists of tasks related to concepts introduced to you in
Topics 1 & 4. The activity is designed to develop the foremost skill in the information researching
process which is to embark, clarify and understand your research topic/question.
There are seven tasks in total for Part-A of this Activity:
Task 1 - Identify your allocated research topic
Task 2 - Identify main concepts/ideas of the topic as per your initial interpretation/understanding
Task 3 - Conduct background search on topic using web search tools including ChatGPT
Task 4 - Synthesize information and brainstorm independently to further understand the information need
Task 5 - Use ChatGPT as a refinement tool to gain further insights from multiple perspectives
Task 6 - Create a mind/concept map to show how the concepts/ideas of your research topic are related
Task 7 - Reflect on how your understanding of the allocated research topic has evolved/improved
Part B: Is a summary/reflection exercise based on your learning & experience

PART-A: UNPACKING THE RESEARCH TOPIC & ASSIGNMENT QUESTION
ePA2 Overview:
Students often misinterpret or do not fully understand what the research topic or assignment question
requires of them. This means a lot of time is wasted looking for resources that they will never use. To
get the right information, you must ask the right questions. Therefore, it is important to spend some
time exploring and understanding the research question and establishing the information need.
This not only ensures that the research efforts are tailored to ask the right questions (i.e. Who, What,
Where, When Why, How) but also the search strategies are in-part effectively designed to find highly
relevant information resources that adequately covers the research topic/question.
Tasks:
You are required to make use of the ePortfolio Activity 2 template to capture your responses (answers)
to the tasks below:

*Document your responses to the tasks below in the format provided in ePA2 template.
Task 2. At first glance:
a. Read your research topic and identify the broad topic and main concepts/ideas.
b. What is your initial interpretation/understanding of your allocated research question prior to
conducting your information research? List at least three to five points.
Task 3. Conduct a quick background search to develop sufficient introductory/general knowledge on
your allocated research topic:
a. List URLs of five information resources that you browsed one of which must be ChatGPT.
b. For each URL provided, classify the type of information resource it represents for e.g.
commercial, input/out (AI site), news, government, academic, corporate, organizational,
social media, or blogs.
c. Rate each of the five selected information resources based on coverage using the rating
system: comprehensive, adequate, limited.
Task 4. Having explored various information resources, you now should have gained a better
understanding of the related concepts/ideas related to your allocated research
topic/information need. To guide your research further, independently, and critically think
about the various sub-topics/themes that are associated with your research topic and
document at least five highly relevant questions that explore your topic/information need
from different points-of-view. You may use interrogative questions such as (Who, What,
Where, When, Why and How). See example document for clarification.
Task 5. Use ChatGPT within a single chat session to answer your brainstorming questions and help
explore additional relevant perspectives and themes. To achieve this, construct a prompt
using the following guidelines:

• For Context/Info: Using your initial interpretation and understanding (Task-2), briefly
introduce your research topic to ChatGPT and list the five brainstorming questions from
Task 3.
• For Intent/Goal: Your objective here is twofold: firstly, to gain clear answers to your
brainstorming questions and to generate additional questions and answers that further
explore your topic from different perspectives that you may have not considered.
• For Format: Then ask ChatGPT to categorize all questions and answers (brainstormed &
additional) under relevant thematic areas. Thematic areas in this assessment refer to
specific categories or topics that emerge from your broader research subject, helping to
organize and further explore into the various aspects of the main topic.
Document your prompts only i.e. what you asked ChatGPT and share the link to the single
ChatGPT chat session in the provided ePA2 template.
Task 6. A mind/concept map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked
to and arranged around a central key topic or idea.
a. Create a mind/concept map to show how the broad research topic, its thematic areas and
sub-topics are related. You can use MS Word or a freely available concept mapping software
such as Coggle or bubbl.us to create the mind/concept map.
b. Ensure that your name and student ID# is captured in the same mind-map which you can add
as a separate bubble. See example document for clarification.
c. Download your completed “Concept/Mind Map” either in .jpeg or .png image format or use
Windows Snipping tool to take a snapshot of the map.
d. Upload or Copy and Paste your Concept/Mind Map into the required section of ePA2 word
document template.
Task 7. Consider the insights you've gained from the background research (Task 3), independent
brainstorming (Task 4), using ChatGPT as a refinement tool (Task 5) and mid/concept mapping
(Task 6). Reflecting on your initial understanding and interpretation of the information need,
explain three specific ways in which these tasks have evolved/improved your understanding
of the allocated research topic.
PART-B: SUMMARY & REFLECTION
Reflect and share your experience of ethically using AI (ChatGPT) in this assessment and how has the
tool impacted your information searching experience and critical thinking. Type the reflection in the
space provided in the ePA2 Template.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Your responses to ePortfolio Activity 2 documented using the ePA2 template must be
converted to a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file
2. Ensure your file is named SXXXXXXXXX_ACT_2, where SXXXXXXXXX represents your actual
ID number.
3. Upload/submit the converted file in the ePortfolio Activity 2 dropbox available on the
ePortfolio Activities and Resources Page on Moodle by the due date - Friday 28th of March,
2025 by 11:55PM - Fiji Standard Time (FJT).
