fresh, airy, etc)
3. Is this the place you want to
live in the future?
It is beautiful, teacher.
The picture has a clean
environment
I think the place feels
fresh, teacher.
Yes, teacher.
4. Why do you think this place is
beautiful?
5. How can we keep nature clean
and beautiful like in the picture?
I think the place is
beautiful because it is
clean, teacher.
We should take care of
our environment and
clean it every day,
teacher.
Very Good! All your answers are
correct. Now, I have another
picture to show you.
1. What do you see in the
picture?
2. What makes the place look
dirty or polluted?
3. What colors do you notice in
the picture?

Unlocking of Key Words
Smog / Smog-filled skies
Broken land
Dust
Behind bars
Huge
Deeds
Let us now read the poem.
Teacher Mizy will read first, and I
want you to listen carefully to
how I read it. Do you understand,
class?
Yes teacher
The poem is about how
the Earth is getting
damaged.
It tells us to take care of
nature now.
Yes, it sounds sad.
By recycling, planting
trees, and saving water.
The Future
What does the future hold for us?
Smog-filled skies and poison cars,
And broken land with useless dust
And nature's beauty behind bars.
Can I ever show my children,
(If they ever come my way)
The beauty of a sunset
At the end of the day?
Can I walk into a forest,
and surround myself with trees?
Yet know that it will remain,
For me to visit as I wish.
I know that I can today
Do all the things I've said.
But when today is yesterday,
Will all these things be dead?
This problem is huge.
As we slowly see,
we must fix it quickly,
in words and thoughts and deeds.
What is the poem about?
What is the poem trying to
tell you?
Does the poem sounds sad?
How can you help maintain
the beauty of our
environment?
D. Discussing new
concepts and
practicing new
skills #1
Class, the poem is talked about
the future. The writer is asking,
‘What does the future hold for
us?’
Right now, we can see clean skies,
trees, and sunsets. But if people
are not careful, the air could
become dirty with smoke, and
nature might disappear.
The writer is worried: ‘Will my
children see the beauty of nature
like I do now?’ ‘Will there still be
forests to visit?’
The last part of the poem tells us
that this is a big problem, but we
can still fix it! How? By using our
words (talking about the
problem), our thoughts (thinking
of ways to help), and our deeds
(doing good things like planting
trees and keeping our
surroundings clean).
Group members will start
answering
So, the poem teaches us to take
care of nature now so that we
and future generations can enjoy
it forever
E. Discussing new
concepts and
practicing new
skills #2
Going back to the poem, class, do
you notice some questions?
What are those questions, class?
Very Good! All your answers are
correct. And all of these questions
Yes teacher
What does the future
hold for us?
Can I ever show my
children, (If they ever
come my way)
The beauty of a sunset
At the end of the day?
Can I walk into a forest,
are called Yes/No Alternative
Questions
and surround myself
with trees?
Will all these things be
dead?
Yes teacher
Pupils’ answer may
vary.
Yes Teacher
Do you understand, class?
Can you give me examples?
F. Developing
mastery lead to
formative
assessment
Now, I will divide you into three
groups. Each group will receive an
envelope containing an activity
that should be done in three
minutes. Inside the envelope are
the materials and instructions.
Note all the rules we have and do
it with all your best.
Group 1: Find the Yes/No
question in the poem and
underline it.
The Shining Moon
Can you see the moon so bright?
Will it glow all through the night?
It shines so high up in the sky,
Smiling down as stars pass by.
Do you think it sees us too?
Does it watch the things we do?
The moon is round, big, and
white,
Keeping us safe with gentle light.
Group 2: Write three yes/no
questions.
(Pupils’ answers may vary)
Group 3: Show me you care!
Read each question carefully.
Write Yes or No in the answer
column
Question
Your
Answer
(Yes or
No)
Will you help take
care of the
environment?
Are trees and
flowers important
to us?
Does throwing
garbage anywhere
help the
environment?
Do you think
nature is
beautiful?
Does garbage
make the park
clean?
(checking of works and giving of
points after)
G. Finding practical
application of
concepts and skills
in daily skills in
daily living
Does answering yes or no
questions important?
Why do you think so?
Yes, very good. Yes / No questions
help us answer quickly and
express ourselves clearly and
easily. The moment we hear a yes
or no answer, it gives us an idea
of what to do next. For example,
as your teacher asking you all of
you here if did you understood
the lesson? And you will answer
yes or no, then it will help me or
as your teacher know if I need to
explain more.
Am I clear, class?
Yes teacher
It makes it easy to
answer quickly teacher.
H. Making
generalization and
abstraction about
the lesson
Okay class, what are Yes/No
Alternative Questions and how do
we make it?
(Let the pupils read the posted
information on the board again)
