THE ROLE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN PREVENTING ADOLESCENCE OBESITY SUBMITTED BY: IRENE TABALANZA CANGAYDA MAED-PE gmail account: vievescangayda@gmail.com 1.Introduction Obesity is a long-term (chronic) health condition that developing over time. Obesity is defined as a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body. Adolescence obesity is a condition where excess body fat negatively effects a child’s health or well-being. The extra weight is also called overweight is usually the starts of children’s health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Adolescence obesity also can be a cause of low self-esteem, anxiety and sometimes resulted to depression. Adolescence obesity is one of the outstanding global health issue and concern with far reaching outcome. It increases the risk of developing chronic diseases, and certain cancers later in life. While multiple aspect contributes to childhood obesity, including diet and sedentary lifestyles, physical education (PE) plays a vital role in reducing the widespread of this problem. This concept paper survey the vital role of PE in prevention or stopping of obesity, focusing on its impact on physical activity levels, healthy habits, and overall well-being. 2.Statement of the Problem The increase of adolescence obesity is alarming in many countries. Children spent a lot of their time engaging in sedentary lifestyles and activities such as watching television, playing video games, and using computers. Children who have obesity may get harass or bullied by their peers. As a result, they may have low self-esteem. They also can have a greater chance of having an eating disorder and suffer from depression. It will also affect them in terms physical, social, and mental well-being. The absence of Physical Activity integrates with unhealthy dietary habits, strengthen exceptional weight gain and obesity. The consequences increase after childhood, impacting health, academic performance, and quality of life in adulthood. 3.Research Question This research wants to answer the following question: a. To what area do extend physical education programs, impact childhood obesity rates and related health outcomes? b. Does create engaging activities including increased duration in PE classes, engaging program or studies, and teacher training can help the students reduce the risk of obesity? 4. Significance of the Study This study holds impressive importance to several lessons: a. Coping a Public Health Crisis: Adolescence obesity is a global health emergency issue with long-term individual and societal costs. This research directly discusses this issue by analyzing a possible effective precautionary measure in preventing the obesity among adolescence. b. Better Child Health Result: Through analyzing the impact of organize and planned PE programs, this study can help in tracking the health and well-being of children and reduce the possibility of developing chronic diseases later in life. c. Advocate Healthy Lifestyles: This research will continue to strengthen more understanding in promoting and encouraging healthy lifestyles in children (adolescence) specifically the importance of engaging in physical activity and its positive impact on total well-being. d. Economic Cost -Effectiveness: Engaging in safety measures like improving, monitoring and planning an arrange PE programs is often more economical than healing or curing chronic diseases later in life.( prevention is better than cure) This research will help to measure the possible cost saving related with preventing adolescence obesity. 5. Research Methodology This study will employ a quasi-experimental design, in comparison of the treatment group (schools implementing the enhanced Physical Education program) with a control group (schools maintaining their existing Physical Education programs). This study will include a before and after intervention assessment of both groups. a Participants: A respondent’s sample of secondary schools in President Roxas South District will be chosen within schools randomly assigned to the treatment of control group. Students within each school will participate in the conduct of the study. b. Data Collection: Data will be gathered or collected by using a two methods approach: a. Quantitative Data: Before and After intervention measurement of Body Mass Index, physical activity levels (using accelerometers app) and fitness assessments (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength will be gathered. b. Qualitative Data: Surveys, interviews and focus groups will be arrange within students, teachers, and parents to collect or gather information on the fulfillment of the program, differences in attitudes towards physical activity, and discern hindrances to participation. c. Data Analysis: Quantitative data will be analyzed and interpret by using statistical methods such as ANOVA and T-Test to compare changes in BMI, physical activity levels and fitness points among the treatment and control groups. Qualitative data will be analyzed using qualitative-content analysis to identify main ideas or concept and patterns in the responses. 6. Timeline: Study will span two academic years, with data collection occurring at the beginning and end of each year. 7. Dissemination: The result of this research study will be distributed in different fields to maximize their impact: a. Educational Printing: A literature-review announcement or advertisement of the study will be distributed to proper publication in the fields of Physical Education, psychology, or health. b. Convention Presentations: The result will be presented into discussion associated to Physical Education, adolescent health, and psychology. This will include both oral and advertisement demonstrations. c. Policy Briefs: Brief information, summarizing the result and their conclusions for educational policy will be prepared and distributed to important government organization and educational institution. d. Community Outreach: The result will be shared with respondents’ schools and community organizations through workshops, presentations and reports specially made to general public. This will focus on actual implications for encouraging high self-confidence and positive body image among adolescents, e. Public Engagement: A statement will be issued to distribute the result to the public. Information will also be spread through social media and the project website (if created). f. Open Access Publication: The final research report will be made available online through an open-access site to ensure universal accessibility. 8. Conclusion Investing in enhanced PE program is a crucial step in preventing childhood obesity. By increasing the duration and frequency of PE classes, creating engaging curricula, and providing adequate teacher training, schools can play a significant role in promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing the burden of childhood obesity. Further research guided by the research questions, will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of different approaches, and inform the development of evidence-based interventions. The significance of the study lies in its potential to contribute to a healthier future for children and reduce the substantial societal costs associated with childhood obesity.
