🥇 Goals Explanation These goals are created specifically for this toolkit focused on skills key to positive leadership. These skills work with Nashville’s Vision for Holistic Youth Development to detail specific skills using a leadership lens. In the goals, there are skills for self, in the Self-Monitoring and Organization of Self groups. Conversely, there are skills for working with others, Monitoring Others, and Organization of Others. Leaders have the responsibility of leading one’s self and others. Because of these facts, the skills are organized under these two categories. The concept of monitoring and organizing are created from Trait Theory, ideas of Servant Leadership and the value of Initiating Structure, Feminist ideas on the utility of power, and the Self-regulated model of executive functioning from cognitive science. These ideas suggest that monitoring and organizing are skills that can be developed and are worth developing to be a positive leader. Monitoring refers to being aware and shaping one’s behavior to fit goals. Organization is the task of putting ideas and people together and creating structures to achieve goal. Goals 1 There are transversal skills that do not fit into these categories and are thought to help one in translating a skill from ones self to others. Often these skills are related to communication. Evidence indicates that instruction connected to career and college success leads to more engaged students, as evidenced by increased high school completion rates. At the bottom, these skills are combined into I can statements related to career and college readiness standers. This I can statement can motivate learners by showing the importance and application of what they are learning. These goals should be made more specific, changed, broken down, and questioned, in the future but this is the current conceptualization of the skills that should be the focus of development to build leaders.
