Review:
DIRECTIONS: Read the following statements
below and decide whether True or False.
1. Constellations are not helpful to
navigators.
2. People use constellations to forecast the
weather.
3. Ancient people used to create patterns
out of stars.
4. The groups of stars that form distinct
patterns
in
the
sky
are
called
constellations.
5. Navigators use Polaris as their guide in
determining directions.
6. The stars allowed farmers to plan and
cultivate their agriculture, and the
constellations made it easier to recognize
and interpret the patterns in the sky.
In your previous lesson, you have
identified
and
described
star
patterns that can be seen at
particular times of the year. Let us
have a review of your past lessons.
A constellation is a group of stars that
appears to form a pattern or picture. For
thousands of years, people across the
world have looked up at the night sky
and connected the dots between stars.
Different cultures have made different
constellations from the same stars, often
reflecting the people, animals, and
objects important in their lives.
In 1925, the International Astronomical
Union
recognized
88
official
constellations.
This
helps
space
scientists around the world talk about
the same stars without confusion.
Did You Know? Not all stars in a
constellation are near each other. They
appear to be close because we are
viewing them from very far away, but
they are billions of miles apart!
This time you are going to trace some of
the familiar constellations that you have
encountered during your previous
lessons.
Let us try this!
Trace over the lines to connect the dots.
The dots represent the main stars of the
constellation, with the larger dots
showing the Big Dipper.
Trace over the lines to connect the dots to
show the constellation, Cassiopeia. The dots
represent the main stars of the constellation.
List down the constellation you like the
most.
