E1.4.1. Rationale
This course is designed to introduce students to computers and their applications.
Students will learn fundamental concepts of computer hardware and software to
become familiar with a variety of computer applications, including word processing,
spreadsheets, databases, networks and multimedia presentations. Students will also
investigate internet-based applications, working with email and learning how to
browse the web. The coursework will also include health information technology;
how technology is being applied in the health sector and some of the standard health
systems students are likely to meet after they join the workforce.

At the end of the course, the student is expected to:
i.​ Demonstrate an understanding of what computers are, how computers work
and how to keep safe in this technological era.
ii.​ Accomplish creating basic documents, worksheets, presentations and
databases.
iii.​ Demonstrate an understanding of computer networks and information security.
iv.​ Apply knowledge of information communication technology in understanding
and utilizing health information systems.
