In the Philippines, the implementation of the K-12 curriculum has emphasized the importance of selecting an appropriate Senior High School (SHS) track that aligns with students’ skills, interests, and career aspirations. However, a noticeable trend has emerged wherein junior high school students from STNHS to transfer to other schools for their Senior High School education. This phenomenon raises concerns about the factors influencing their decision-making process and the potential implications for the school. Students may pursue out in schools considered to provide a better academic experience if they have concerns about the quality of education at STNHS, possibly with regard to teaching methods, resources offered, or the general learning atmosphere. At the same time, students might influenced by ideas of improved future success at other schools, thinking that the reputation, specialized programs, or track offers of a certain school will better prepare them for college or their intended career pathways. Lastly, these choices are significantly affected by peer and parental factors. Peer pressure and the desire to attend the same school as classmates can also have an enormous effect on a student’s decision, often taking priority over personal academic aspirations. Parents may actively support transfers based on their own evaluations of educational quality or future chances. According to the study of Tecoalu (2022), education quality is a critical determinant; students are more likely to seek out schools that offer superior educational experiences, which can include better teaching methods, curriculum, and overall academic performance. This aligns with the findings that education quality SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro positively affects students’ decisions to select a high school, as noted in the study’s analysis of various quality factors . According to the study by Agyekum (2019), the quality of the relationship between students and teachers is a crucial factor in student engagement and academic success. Positive teacher-student relationships are crucial for enhancing students’ academic performance. When students feel supported and valued by their teachers, they are more likely to engage in their studies and perform well. Conversely, negative relationships can lead to poor academic outcomes, which may motivate students to transfer to institutions where they feel they can succeed better. The mention studies shows that the junior high school student’s decision to transfer to a different school for their senior high school education can be influenced by teacher-student relationships and quality of education. In terms of teacher-student relationship, students may choose to leave STNHS if they experience a lack of support or positive interactions with their teachers and seek a more positive and nurturing learning environment elsewhere. While in quality of education, if students believe that STNHS’s instruction is insufficient, unending, or does not adequately accommodate their learning requirements, they may transfer. This could have to do with the availability of efficient teaching techniques, classroom management, or instructor expertise. According to the study of Degroote (2020), school-related factors play a crucial role in influencing the decision of Junior High School (JHS) students to transfer to other institutions. The research highlights that various elements within the school environment, such as academic performance, peer relationships, and the overall school climate, significantly impact students’ experiences and satisfaction. When students perceive their current school as lacking in support or resources, they may feel compelled to seek better opportunities elsewhere. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro Additionally, the study suggests that negative experiences, such as bullying or inadequate teacher support, can lead to increased feelings of isolation and disengagement, prompting students to consider transferring to a different school where they believe they might find a more supportive and engaging environment. In the Philippine context, junior high school students choose a track that aligns with their interests and career aspirations. These tracks are like different paths leading to different careers. The most common tracks are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management), HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences), and TVL (Technical-Vocational-Livelihood). STEM focuses on science and technology, ABM prepares students for business careers, HUMSS explores social sciences and humanities, and TVL provides practical skills for specific trades. Choosing the right track helps students focus their studies and prepare for their future careers. According to the study of Dvořák et al. (2020), the availability of specific tracks can have a significant impact on students’ long-term educational and career outcomes. The study found that students in higherlevel tracks were more likely to achieve higher levels of education and secure better jobs with higher salaries. This suggests that access to specialized tracks can be a crucial factor in shaping a student’s future success. Which means that the availability of specific academic tracks or programs such as STEM, ABM, HUMSS, or TVL can significantly influence a student’s decision to transfer to another school. The study shows that students are more likely to transfer schools if the new school offers specific academic tracks that match their interests and aligns with their future career. For example, if a student is passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), but their current school doesn't offer a STEM track, they might choose to transfer to a school that does. The availability of specialized academic tracks is a key factor influencing school transfer decisions. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro Academic factors which include a wide range of considerations, such as the perceived quality of instruction, curriculum offerings, and available resources, may have a significant impact on students’ decisions to transfer from San Teodoro National High School (STNHS) for their senior high school (SHS) education. If students believe that STNHS’s quality of education is not enough to prepare them for their intended college or career options, they might transfer. This could show up as a curriculum that doesn’t match their particular academic interests or aspirations, a perceived lack of difficult courses. Likewise, the standard of instruction could have a major part. Student’s decision to transfer schools can be influenced by teacher-student relationships. Students are more likely to stay at their current school if they have positive and supportive relationships with their teachers, which can improve academic performance, motivation, and a sense of belonging. However, negative or strained relationships can have the opposite effect, leading students to seek a more positive and nurturing learning environment elsewhere. Students might transfer if they experience a lack of support from teachers, feeling unheard, misunderstood, or unsupported in their academic struggles. This could stem from ineffective communication, a lack of empathy from teachers, or a perceived unwillingness to address individual learning needs. Similarly, issues of fairness and equity in teacher treatment can influence transfer decisions. Students might transfer if they perceive favoritism, discrimination, or unfair grading practices within the school. The availability of mentor ship opportunities and guidance counseling can also significantly affect teacher-student relationships and influence transfer decisions. Students might transfer if they feel a lack of support in facing academic challenges, career planning, or personal issues, seeking a school that provides more comprehensive guidance and support. This study aims to investigate the reasons behind junior high school students' decision to transfer from STNHS to different public institutions. The research focuses specifically on identifying and analyzing the SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro key factors that contribute to these transfer decisions, providing insights into the experiences and perspectives of the students involved. FRAMEWORK THEORETICAL FRAMEWWORK Bernard Weiner is an American social psychologist known for developing a form of attribution theory which seeks to explain the emotional and motivational entailment of academic success and failure. His contributions include linking attribution theory, the psychology of motivation, and emotion. Bernard Weiner’s Attribution Theory explains how individuals attribute the causes of their past successes or failures to different factors, which in turn influence their motivation. In this theory, a person may perceive these causes as either internal or external, stable or unstable, and controllable or uncontrollable. Internal factors refer to causes within the individual, while external factors are those that exist in the surrounding environment. Stable causes remain consistent over time, whereas unstable causes are subject to change. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro Additionally, controllable factors are those that individuals can influence, while uncontrollable factors are beyond their control. In connection with this, Attribution Theory helps us understand why some Junior High School (JHS) students choose to transfer schools. If students feel that their current school does not provide quality education, lacks proper facilities, or has a poor reputation, they may attribute their academic struggles or dissatisfaction to these external and stable factors. This perception can push them to seek a better learning environment, where they believe that they will have more opportunities to succeed. In the context of this study, Attribution Theory, researchers can gain deeper insight into the reasons behind school transfers and what factors influence Junior High School students (JHS) decisions to move to another public institution. By using this theory, researchers can gain deeper insight into the reasons behind school transfers and what factors influence students’ decisions to move to another institution. I.P.O. Understanding these reasons is crucial for improving STNHS and ensuring students have positive educational experiences. This research will explore academic factors, teacher-student relationships, schoolrelated factors, curriculum offerings at different schools, and the perceived impact of transferring on future opportunities. The study will also examine the influence of parental and peer pressure, as well as the availability of specific SHS tracks on students’ choices. Foreign Literature According to M. Samuel, Kibaara Tarsilla, and P. Gichohi (2023), in their journal article, “Relationship Between Quality Of Learning And Student Inter-University Transfer In Private Universities In Kenya,” found that quality of learning significantly influences student mobility in private universities. Students prefer institutions guaranteeing quality education and opportunities for labor market success. The study directly supports the importance of educational quality in university transfer decisions, highlighting a strong preference for superior learning environments. Binary logistic regression analysis supports the findings. Recommendations regarding infrastructure and qualified lecturers are relevant to student retention and transfer decisions. The study by Yung-Shen Yen (2023), “Predicting Students’ Transfer Intention To Other Universities Using The Push–Pull–Mooring Model,” an Academic Journal Article, identified that both push factors (negative experiences at the current university) and pull factors (attractive features of other universities) significantly influence students’ intentions to transfer. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro The push effect was more impactful than the pull effect. Switching costs moderate the relationship between push and pull factors and transfer intention. Students who perceive high switching costs are less likely to be influenced by these factors when considering a transfer. According to Yusuf (2024), in his journal article “Factors Affecting Students’ Choice of Universities,” investigated the factors influencing freshmen students’ university selection. The study, using a quantitative survey design with 90 respondents from three universities in Garowe, found that program availability, university reputation, fee payment flexibility, and geographical location significantly impact students’ choices. Analysis revealed university reputation as the most influential factor (average mean of 4.1), followed by program offerings (3.9), fee payment flexibility (3.85), and finally geographical location (3.5). The study concludes that academic reputation and program offerings are the most significant factors driving students’ university selection decisions. The studies by Samuel, Kibaara, and Gichohi (2023), Yen (2023), and Yusuf (2024) all contribute to understanding student university transfer decisions. Samuel, Kibaara, and Gichohi (2023)’s work on the relationship between learning quality and student transfers in Kenyan private universities directly supports the significance of educational quality in transfer decisions, highlighting the preference for superior learning environments. Yen (2023)’s research utilizes the push–pull–mooring model to analyze undergraduate transfer intentions in Taiwan, revealing the influence of negative experiences at the current university (“push” factors) and the relative weakness of attractive attributes at other universities (“pull” factors). Yusuf (2024)’s study on factors affecting university choice emphasizes the roles of program availability, reputation, financial aspects, and location in student decisions, which are all relevant to transfer choices. These three studies collectively provide a comprehensive view of the factors influencing student decisions to transfer universities, encompassing both the quality of education and institutional characteristics. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro According to Hossain, Shohel, and Jahan (2022), in their journal article, “Determinants of School Choice: A Study on Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Area of Bangladesh,” investigated factors influencing primary school selection in the Nirala Residential area of Khulna City Corporation, Bangladesh. Using inferential statistics (p-values reported), the study, based on data from mothers, found that parental education, income, child’s education level, family size, and parental perceptions of schools significantly influenced school choice. Financial considerations proved more impactful than school reputation or facilities. A preference for private schools indicated dissatisfaction with government schools. While focused on parental choices at the primary level in a specific Bangladeshi context, this research offers indirect relevance to understanding student transfer influences. The emphasis on parental perceptions of school quality and financial factors warrants consideration; however, significant differences in educational levels and the focus on parental rather than student decision-making necessitate cautious interpretation and acknowledgement of limitations. The finding of parental dissatisfaction with government schools suggests a potential motivation for students seeking superior educational opportunities elsewhere. Nakamura-Thomas, Sano, & Maciver (2023), in their journal article, “Factors Influencing Junior High School Students’ Perceptions Of Attending School In Japan,” explored factors shaping students’ views of school attendance. Their findings revealed that positive relationships with peers and teachers strongly correlated with positive school perceptions, while poorer subjective health status negatively impacted these perceptions. Other factors, such as current circumstances and having supportive social connections, exerted a weaker but still positive influence. Positive correlations existed among positive relationships, favorable circumstances, and social support, while these factors negatively correlated with poor health. Although not directly examining school transfers, this research offers valuable insight into junior high school students’ experiences. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro The strong link between positive relationships and positive school perceptions suggests that supportive social environments are crucial. The negative correlation between poor health and positive school perceptions highlights the need to address students’ well-being. These findings indirectly suggest that negative relationships or poor health could contribute to a desire for a change of environment, potentially influencing transfer decisions. Foreign Study According to Karina Anne Rodriguez (2021) study titled “Parental Influence on Children’s Decision Making,” explores how children as young as 4 years old exhibit early signs of executive functions and the ability to make complex, socially and future-oriented decisions. Rodriguez’s research highlights the crucial role of parental scaffolding and active responsiveness in fostering improved decision-making abilities among children. The study underscores that active parental involvement during early childhood plays a pivotal role in nurturing skills that enhance children’s decision-making capabilities. According to Mehdi Hasan, Yingzi Luo, Jianxiu Gu, Iqra Mushtaque, and Muhamad Rizwan (2024) research study titled “Investigating the Parental and Media Influence on Gender Stereotypes and Young Students’ Career Choices in Pakistan,” found that parental influence has a stronger impact on students than media exposure in shaping students’ gender stereotypes and career preferences. Their study revealed that while both factors contribute to these perceptions, parental influence exerts a more direct impact. Together, parental influence, media exposure, and gender stereotypes collectively explain 69.4% of the variation in students’ career decisions. Importantly, the study did not find significant differences in the influence of parents versus media based on gender. According to Dante De Tablan (2020) dissertation, “Surviving High School Transfer: A Multilevel Study of Student and School Characteristics Related to Transfer, Graduation, and College Entry,” examined the factors influencing high school student mobility in Baltimore City. The study found that 34% of students transferred schools, with various individual and school-level factors contributing to these decisions. At the student level, factors such as race (with White students having a lower transfer risk), 8th-grade math scores (high scores increasing risk while missing scores reduced it), disciplinary actions (suspensions reducing risk), employment status (employment reducing risk), and chronic absenteeism (increasing risk) played significant roles. At the school level, free or reduced lunch eligibility was associated with a lower transfer risk, while higher special education rates increased the likelihood of transfer. The study provides valuable insights into the factors influencing high school students’ mobility, academic performance, disciplinary history, socioeconomic status, and school resources helps shaping students’ transfer decisions. The negative correlation between school transfers and graduation or college enrollment emphasizes the need for targeted support to help transferring students succeed. According to Tiffany Amelia Farr (2020) master’s thesis, “How Parents’ Perceptions of Public Schools Influence School Choice,” found that parents placed little consideration on school report cards when making school choice decisions. Instead, their choices were influenced by factors such as teacher satisfaction, school location, the school’s focus and philosophy, the availability of services, and the local political climate. The study highlights that school choice is a deeply personal decision shaped more by real-life needs and experiences. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro According to Michael Bryan Moody (2020) dissertation, “Factors Influencing Students’ Choice of an Institution of Higher Education,” found that performance expectancy and facilitating conditions, such as classrooms, athletic facilities, and academic reputation, have a significant and positive relationship with school choice behavior. Conversely, effort expectancy and social influence did not have a significant direct relationship with school choice behavior. When choosing a school, students tend to focus on the opportunities it provides, such as good classrooms, athletic facilities, and a strong academic reputation. However, factors such as the efforts required to succeed and the influence of others do not have a direct impact on school choice. Local Literature According to Pableo, L. K. D., et al. (2024), in their journal article “Factors Affecting Enrollment Decisions to Transfer to St. Dominic College of Asia: Basis in the Development of Transferee Evaluation and Needs Analysis Form,” the research aimed to assess the key elements affecting transfer decisions among students. By using a survey method to the students in St. Dominic College of Asia, the study identified five primary factors influencing their choice to transfer to another school or stay: family reasons, financial problems, social isolation, quality of education, and general dissatisfaction. These factors are correlated to each other in affecting students’ decisions to leave their previous institutions. Based on this, it concludes that these factors are reasons why students leave their previous school, and it can also be used as a basis for developing intervention programs that can assist transfer students so that they can easily integrate and adjust themselves into their new environment. According to Pérez-Salas, C. P., et al. (2021), in their article “Relationships and Special Educational Needs on Student Engagement and Disengagement: SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro A Correlational study,” the study aimed to analyze how teacher-student relationships, peer and family support, and opportunities for school participation impact student engagement and disengagement. Using a non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional design, the researchers assessed 1,020 high school students in the Philippines, including 340 with SEN and 680 with typical development (TD). Data were collected using various assessment tools, including the Student Engagement Inventory (SEI), the School Participation Questionnaire (SP), and the Multidimensional Scale of School Engagement (MSSE). This study identified how teacherstudent relationships, peer and family support, and school participation affect engagement and disengagement in students with and without special educational needs (SEN). Strong teacher-student relationships were linked to increased engagement and lower disengagement. Teacherstudent relationship can influence the decision of high school students to transfer to better school. Pableo, L. K. D., et al. (2024) examined the reasons behind student transfers, identifying family issues, financial difficulties, social isolation, education quality, and dissatisfaction as key determinants. Similarly, Pérez-Salas, C. P., et al. (2021) explored how teacher-student relationships, peer and family support, and school participation affect student engagement and disengagement, highlighting the role of strong relationships in students’ academic decisions, including transferring school. Both studies provide insights into the reasons why students leave their schools, whether due to dissatisfaction, financial struggles, family, or the search for a better learning environment with stronger academic and social support. Understanding these factors can help institutions develop programs to improve student retention and ease the transition for transferees. According to Dublin, B. C., et al. (2020), in their journal article “Factors influencing career preference of junior high school students for senior high school study,” the study utilized a descriptive and predictive correlational design with a standardized survey questionnaire and statistical significance testing. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro The study involved 166 junior high school students from Tanauan, Leyte, Philippines, selected through stratified random sampling. The study identified interest, personality, parental influence, and job opportunities as significant factors influencing students in senior high school track preferences, with interest emerging as the strongest determinant. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the determinants shaping students’ career choices, offering valuable insights for educators, parents, and educational guiding students to well-suited career paths. According to Tortor et al. (2020), in their study titled “Financial Status, Parents Influence, Peer Influence, and Self-Choice of Students in Selection of Strand in The Senior High School, Cebu, Philippines,” they examined the factors influencing students’ selection of their senior high school strand. The study utilized weighted mean, frequency, chi-square, and lambda tests to analyze data from 214 Senior High School students in Cebu, Philippines. The findings revealed that financial status has a significant impact on students’ self-choice when selecting their strand. However, parental and peer influence did not show a significant correlation with students’ decisions, despite their presence being noticeable. These results suggest that students tend to make independent decisions regarding their academic paths, primarily based on financial considerations rather than external pressure from family or friends. According to Quiño (2022), in the study “Factors Influencing the Career Preference of Senior High School Students during Pandemic,” explored the key factors influencing students’ career choices. Using a stratified random sampling technique, an online survey questionnaire, and a five-point Likert scale, the study assessed 231 Senior High School students enrolled in Cagayan de Oro College during the second semester of SY 2020-2021. The findings identified four primary factors affecting students’ career preferences: financial aid, educational quality, tuition affordability, and the learning environment and culture. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro Financial aid, such as scholarships and financial support, was a crucial factor, as students considered these resources when making career-related decisions. Additionally, students prioritized educational quality, preferring schools with high academic standards and a good learning experience. Tuition affordability also played a role, as students and their families evaluated whether they could sustain the cost of education. Lastly, the school’s learning environment and cultural aspects influenced students’ choices. The study highlighted that these factors impact students’ decisions regardless of their age, gender, or socioeconomic background. Dublin et al. (2020) identified interest, personality, parental influence, and job opportunities as key determinants, while Tortor et al. (2020) emphasized the significant role of financial status in students’ selfchoice of academic strands, with minimal influence from parents and peers. Quiño (2022) further explored how financial aid, tuition affordability, educational quality, and the learning environment impact students’ career preferences. The three studies focus on the factors influencing students’ academic decisions, particularly in choosing their senior high school track or career path. They all identified the external and internal factors that shape students’ academic transitions. Just as career preferences are shaped by financial, personal, and institutional factors, students’ decisions to transfer schools may also be driven by similar considerations, such as financial constraints, academic quality, and personal aspirations. Understanding these factors can help analyze why students leave their current schools in search of better academic conditions. By comparing these elements, the current research can further investigate the reasons behind student mobility and explore ways to support students as they transition to new schools. In their research, “Factors Affecting Transferees in Choosing Bolinao Integrated School” found that the findings of the study highlight the factors that transferee students considered when selecting Bolinao Integrated School. Based on the data collected, it can be concluded that several primary reasons influenced the preference of transferee students in choosing Bolinao Integrated School (BIS) as their educational institution. These factors include the availability of multiple tracks, the reputation for providing quality education, the school recognition within the Bolinao community, and the students’ personal choice. The difference in course offerings between BIS and their previous school, where the previous school had limited courses compared to BIS, also played a role in their decision to transfer. This study focused on the factors that influence students’ decisions to transfer to Bolinao Integrated School, highlighting important issues including the school’s reputation for offering high-quality education and the students’ individual preferences. Through this study, researchers found that most of the adolescents affected by peer influence in their academic engagement were aged 17–18 years old. This means that at this age, many adolescents are influenced by their friends in their decision-making towards academic engagement. Results also showed that women are more likely to be influenced by their peers because women are more socially inclined than men. Women tend to have different social groups or friends than men because of their ability to blend with different social norms. Meanwhile, positive peer influence on students’ academic engagement was shown in the result of this study. This means that one’s friend can have a positive impact on a student’s academic journey by motivating and encouraging them to participate more actively at school. On the other hand, the highest form of peer influence that is affecting students’ academic engagement was group dynamics. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro This means that students’ circle of friends provides motivation and encouragement that can lead the students to engage academically in a positive way. The results of the Survey Questionnaires signified the effects of peer influence on students’ decision-making towards academic engagement. The study highlights that positive peer influence can enhance academic engagement. Friends can motivate and encourage each other to participate more actively in school activities, leading to improved academic involvement at Magpapalayok National High School (Hementera et al., 2024). It was found that the survey respondents who were transferees experienced both positive and negative effects from their migration. Although there is a percentage of both positive and negative effects, the beneficial effects outweigh the unfavorable ones. The researchers (Mantalino et al., 2023) conclude that students’ overall personal growth and development are not significantly impacted by their transfer or school migration. The results further supported the first hypothesis, which claims that transferees are not negatively impacted by migration. However, students are also impacted by migration, so we can say that it may have an impact on them depending on how well they can adjust to their new environment. The researchers hereby confirm that the study was successful. In this study, parents can better comprehend the repercussions their child may have when moving to another environment by being aware of the effects of migration on students. This enables them to support and mentor their kids as they overcome any challenges. Understanding how migration impacts kids helps parents better prepare them for the social, emotional, and academic challenges they will encounter as they settle into new environments. The study emphasizes how crucial it is for parents to be aware of how migration affects their kids. Parents are better able to offer the required support and direction throughout this transition when they recognize that students can manage these changes more skillfully, even though they may experience both positive and negative consequences from changing schools. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro With this information, parents may actively mentor and help their children adjust to new situations by anticipating the social, emotional, and academic difficulties their children may encounter. Ultimately, this knowledge creates a nurturing home environment that can greatly improve a child’s capacity to flourish in the face of migration-related challenges. According to Bautista (2020), in her institutional report “Factors influencing retention and migration of Senior High School students at STI West Negros University” examining the factors affecting the retention and migration of Senior High School students at STI West Negros University. The research focused on key variables such as academic tracks and strands, financial capacity, family support, school policies, and school facilities. The study utilized descriptive statistics and comparative analysis to determine the extent of influence of these factors on student decisions. Results indicated that while financial capacity, family support, and academic tracks were consistently significant across different demographic groups, school policies and facilities showed a more substantial impact on specific groups, particularly based on age and school category. Younger students were found to be more affected by school rules and regulations, while school facilities played a more crucial role for students from private institutions. The study emphasized the importance of providing better career guidance programs, transparent communication from the admissions office, and stronger parental involvement in improving student retention. Moreover, the study recommended the deployment of well-trained security personnel and consistent facility maintenance to create a more conducive learning environment. These findings highlight the need for a holistic institutional approach in addressing the diverse needs of students to enhance retention rates and overall satisfaction. According to Leyson (2023), in her thesis “Factors Influencing the Grade 11 Students in Choosing Their Preferred Strand for Senior High School in Balongating National High School” examining the factors influencing Grade 11 students in choosing their preferred strand. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro The study aimed to identify the different internal and external factors that affect students’ decision-making in selecting their academic strand for senior high school. The results revealed that students’ choices are primarily influenced by three major factors: educational aspirations, parental influence, and peer influence. Among these, educational aspirations had the most significant impact, as students prioritize their future career goals when selecting a strand that aligns with their desired profession. This shows that many students consider their long-term plans and potential job opportunities when making their decisions. Additionally, parental influence plays a crucial role, as parents’ opinions, encouragement, and expectations greatly affect their children’s choices. Meanwhile, peer influence also contributes to students’ decision-making, especially when they tend to follow their friends’ preferences or group decisions. However, the study also highlighted that some students experienced difficulty in matching their chosen strand with their skills, interests, and abilities, resulting in cases of strand mismatch. This mismatch suggests that while external factors heavily influence students’ decisions, personal interests and strengths are sometimes overlooked. The study emphasizes the importance of proper career guidance programs to help students gain a deeper understanding of their abilities, interests, and future aspirations. Providing adequate career counseling and guidance can significantly assist students in making more informed decisions that align both with their personal goals and potential career paths. In short, this literature review shows that many factors influence junior high students' decisions to transfer schools for senior high. Academic quality, teacher relationships, school-related factors, and available courses are consistently important. Family and friends, financial situations, and future job prospects also play a role. While students' own goals matter, the school's characteristics and students' financial backgrounds are also significant. Understanding these factors is important for improving student retention and making the transition to senior high smoother. SAN TEODORO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sitio Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro 5202 stnhs_1995@yahoo.com.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education MIMAROPA Region Schools Division of Oriental Mindoro San Teodoro National High School Suha, Bigaan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro CHAPTER III METHODOLOGY This chapter presents the research design, research locale, respondents of the study, sampling technique, research instrument, scaling and quantification, validation of the instrument, reliability of the instrument, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment of data were employed in the study. Research design This study uses a correlational research design to investigate the factors influencing junior high school students' decisions to transfer from San Teodoro National High School (STNHS) to other public institutions for senior high school (SHS). This design is appropriate because it allows for the examination of relationships between several independent variables (academic factors, teacher-student relationships, school-related factors, availability of specific SHS tracks, quality of education, perceptions of future success, parental and peer influence) and the dependent variable (decision to transfer). Data will be collected through surveys and interviews. The collected data will then be analyzed using regression analysis to determine the strength and direction of the relationships between the independent and dependent variables. This approach will allow us to identify which factors are most strongly associated with students choosing to leave STNHS for SHS, providing a quantitative understanding of the influence of various elements on their decisions. Research Locale The research will focus on all junior high school students specifically Grade 10 students from San Teodoro National High School. A national high school is hereby established in the Municipality of San Teodoro, Province of Oriental Mindoro, to be known as the San Teodoro National High School.
