Agenda for CO’s Meeting
1.
Anti Submarine Warfare plays a vital role in modern days warfare. With the advent of technology,
detecting submarine underwater is becoming a complex and critical work. Achieving success in this
inherently complex task normally comes down to two important factors. One is having modern SONAR
system and another is competent SONAR operators. While Bangladesh Navy is having various modern
SONARs in its inventory, developing efficient and competent SONAR operators still remains a question.
Creation of this competent SONAR crew is a time exhaustive process, as SONAR crew needs to be trained
and skilled up in various SONAR systems for a long time. However, in present context, BN TD rate sailors
who are trained in SONARs onboard various ships are often transferred to various organizations where
these SONAR crews remain away from SONAR operations (Posting to non ASW ships, deputation to other
service organizations etc). This issue becomes the main obstacle in developing skilled and competent
SONAR crews for Bangladesh Navy. To resolve this, BN should have a policy of retention of TAS rate
sailors onboard ASW related ships, establishments, training establishments. This will enable the SONAR
crews to remain on professional duties and thereby enhance their excellence and experience which in turn
will result in the development of efficient and competent SONAR crews. It is to be mentioned that similar
policies for retention of Submarine crews are already enforced to enhance the professionalism of
Submarine crews.
Recommendation.
1.
Transfer and TY draft of TAS rate sailors to non ASW ships, outer organizations or deputations
may be stopped.
2.
A policy may be formed for retention of TAS rate sailors onboard ASW ships and ASW related
organizations and training establishments.
