The characteristics of
the Earth
SUMMARY AND ACTIVITY
The Earth is in the shape of a sphere. A sphere is a round solid object.
There are three (3) main characteristics of the Earth, namely:
Land: The main materials of land are rock, soil, and sand. Land on Earth
consists of continents and islands. Continents are large pieces of land mass,
and islands are a smaller land mass, surrounded by water.
Water: Most of the Earth's surface is covered with water (about 71%). Water
on Earth can be salty or fresh. Oceans and seas contain salt water, while
rivers, ponds, and lakes contain fresh water.
Air: Air is a mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth
as a thin layer. Living things breathe in air to get
oxygen.
