LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET NO. 6
TITLE: SELF-COMPOSED INFORMATIVE SPEECH
Overview:
Informative speech is one that intends to educate the audience on a
particular topic. One of the principal functions of communication is to impart
information.
You use speaking to impart information about people, animals, places,
objects, events, concepts, and process. Effective communication takes place when
the information that you want to convey is the same information received by your
listener. Confusion and misunderstanding will arise when the message you want
to send is not received correctly by the person whom you are speaking. The most
important is to present the information clearly.
Learning Competency: Deliver a self- composed speech using all the
needed speech conventions EN8OL – Iii-3
Deliver a self-composed informative speech like birthday, wedding
massages, result of laboratory experiments, current events, COVID19 related cases or State of School Address of the Principal.

An informative speech can also be about an event- something that occurred only
once, or one that was repeated. Events cover any kind of happening or occurrence.
They can either be ordinary (dancing, going to school, cooking dinner, birthdays
etc.) or historical (Typhoon Yolanda).
The purpose of the informative speech is to provide interesting, useful,
and unique information to your audience. The goal is to help audience be more
organized, understand better or be able to do something for themselves.
TIPS ON HOW TO COMPOSE AN INFORMATIVE SPEECH
1. A quote is the only thing in your outline that can be written in a complete
sentence
2. Use appropriate transition words or phrases to correct your sentences and
thoughts
3. Use an outline to show the order of the details or to organize your topic.
Begin your outline with a thesis statement – the central idea- that expresses
your view on the subject.
4. To write a conclusion that includes all three elements (1) restate your central
idea and (2) use attention-getters listed earlier.
PREPARATION GUIDELINES
1. Prepare a speech on a topic that you know really well.
2. Time your speech. The maximum delivery runs for 3 minutes.
3. Use visual aids in your presentation. A how-to speech is more
effective if it is accompanied by a demonstration.
HOW TO IMPROVE VERBAL DELIVERY
1. Speak with clarity. Enunciate your words so that you do not mumble.
2. Keep your volume steady. Do not speak more softly at the end of each
sentence
3. Project your voice by speaking loud enough so that people at the back of
room can hear you.
4. Avoid speaking in a monotone.
Vary the intensity and pitch of your voice.
Concentrate on the feeling that you want to convey.
3
5. Speak at a comfortable rate.
Do not speak too fast or too slow
Pause occasionally, so that you can breathe and your audience will
understand your ideas.
6. Avoid bad vocal habits.
Do not use vocalized pauses ( e.g. “uh”, “um”, “OK”, like. etc)
Do not use unusual inflection (e.g., saying every sentence or phrases
if it a question).
Be watchful of these problems as you practice.
HOW TO IMPROVE NONVERBAL DELIVERY
1. Maintain good posture.
2. Add emphasis to your speech more interesting.
3. Avoid distracting mannerism and gestures such as swaying your body or
playing with your hair or clothes.
4. Be animated. Move around the stage as you speak. This helps control
tension and makes the speech more interesting.
5. Establish eye contact with individuals in your audience as you speak. Do not
read from your notes. Try to look at your audience more often.
USING COHESIVE DEVICES
Transition words are used as cohesive devices that can help you connect the ideas
in the sentences and paragraphs. Here are the different types of cohesive devices.

STATE OF THE SCHOOL ADDRESS
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
–Nelson Mandela
Our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Jorge V. Veloso, PTA Officers, teachers, parents,
alumni, students, friends and guests, good morning. I am proud and honored to
have you all here as I render my State of the School Address for the S.Y. 20192020.
5
Villaba National Comprehensive High School started last 2002 with only 5
teachers and now it has already 76 teachers and 4 non-teaching staff. Moreover,
the learners’ population increased from 100 learners to 1,800 learners
approximately. The number of classrooms likewise increased directly proportional
to the population of learners. The increase in population is due to the academic
and extracurricular achievements of the learners, and VNCHS is the only public
school accessible to almost all the barangays in the town of Villaba.
Somewhat earlier that the school has recently received teaching facilities that will
aid the learning of the students like 2 computer laboratories with 50 computer
sets each room; 2 science laboratories for both JHS and SHS; 24 JHS classrooms
and 20 SHS classrooms; guidance office; registrar’s office; Principal’s office; and
Property Custodian’s office.
VNCHS is situated at A. Tumamak, Villaba, Leyte and over 19 years of its existence
it extended the educational services to the young people in Villaba. The school
adopted 2 Junior High Schools in barangay Hinabuyan and Sambulawan. These
were built through the help of DEPED and stakeholders to support Deped’s mission
and vision and the most important is to provide learners with free, accessible, and
quality education for all.
Villaba National Comprehensive High School teachers and staff were grateful to all
the stakeholders for their unwavering support and active participation in all of the
school activities and projects. Recently, the school owned 19 SMART TV sets as
project of the GPTA to support the school’s advocacy and technically compete with
the changing trends in education.
The school still has much more to improve and attain which is why we (VNCHS
teachers and staff) need you (stakeholders) to continue your support and
cooperation in all its endeavors. You role as stakeholders is very crucial in the
success of the school’s/ DEPED’s mission and vision now and in the future.
Finally, I will leave you with a message quoted by Benjamin Franklin “Without
continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and
success have no meaning”.
Thank you and to God be all the Glory…
