Colleges and
Social Networking
OW do students choose colleges? Many students want to know what
majors a school offers. Some students want to know about the sports teams. Most
students want to know what life is like on campus. These days, a lot of students are also
looking at a college’s social media activity. They use websites like Facebook, Twitter, and
YouTube to do this.
H
College-age students spend a lot of time online. They chat with their friends on social
networks. They play games. Some take classes online. So it makes sense that students go
online to learn about different colleges.
New studies show that many students choose colleges that are very active on social
media websites. Students like to see photos of school activities and events. They like to
see class schedules. Some schools have video chats and Facebook pages for new students.
With social media, high school students can communicate with students at a college. That
way, they can learn what life at the college is like.

My views on Social
Networking sites
People use social networking sites because they're
"fun." They help us connect with friends. They give
us interesting information. They make us happy.
Right? Well, maybe not. I recently read a magazine
artkle about social networking sites. The article
says that they can actually make people feel angry
and frustrated. I think the article is right. People
usually post happy things — photos of parties,
vacations, friends, and family. But sometimes I'm at
home studying, and I look at the posts and feel bad.
I think, "All my friends are happy. But I'm bored.
What's wrong with me?" Or sometimes I post a
photo, and only two people comment on it, so I
think people don't like me. I know it's silly to feel
this way. Do other people have this problem?

First, I like to spend time with my family. They know me really well, so I'm always
comfortable with them. Second, my friends make me happy. We talk, we study
together, we go to movies, we have lots of fun. Next, I love listening to music. I
listen to it everywhere - at home, at work, and on the subway. Finally, exercising
makes me happy. I swim almost every morning, and I play soccer on weekends.

오 READING AND WRITING
A Read and listen. Why did people admire Akira Kurosawa?
CD 2-06
J J J
A great director
Akira Kurosawa was a great movie director. He (1) was born in Tokyo in 1910.
He studied art, but worked in film to make money. In 1936 he got a job as assistant
movie director, and five years later he became a director. In his 57-year career, Kurosawa
directed 30 films. In 1950, he directed the movie “Rashomon.” It (2) won first prize at the
Venice Film Festival. In 1990, Kurosawa won an Oscar.
Why was Kurosawa a great director? One reason is that he wanted every detail in his
films to be perfect. The actors in his historical movies wore their costumes for several
weeks before they filmed because he (3) didn’t want them (4) to look new.
Many other movie directors admire Kurosawa. Directors Francis Ford Coppola, Steven
Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese are all Kurosawa fans. They (5) admire Kurosawa because
he made wonderful films, and because he was a teacher for younger directors. He tried to
help them (6) become great directors, too.

CD 2-12
What kind of grocery shopper are you?
There are three kinds of grocery shoppers in this wo이d. What kind are you?
The fast shopper
The careful shopper
The daily shopper
“Fast shoppers” hate
grocery shopping, so they
shop very quickly. Eric
Jones is a typical fast
shopper. He always makes
a list before he shops, and
he only buys the things on
his list. He likes to shop late
at night, when there aren’t
many people in the store.
“Careful shoppers” love
grocery shopping. They
often spend hours at the
store, and usually shop at
large supermarkets. Careful
shopper Jane Adams says,
“I read labels carefully,
because I want to buy
healthy food. I always look
at prices. I never shop
without my phone, because I
need a calculator!”
“Daily shoppers” shop
almost every day. Daily
shopper Matt Gregory shops
at a small market on his way
home from work every day.
He buys fresh meat, fruit,
and vegetables. Matt says, “I
don’t shop with a list. I just
look for fresh food, and buy
that for dinner!”

THE OUTDOOR MARKET IS BACK
Do you remember the wonderful outdoor market
across from the library? It was a great place to buy fruit,
vegetables, and meat, but it closed last year. Well, now
it's back in a new location. The new outdoor market
opened last weekend on the corner of King Street and
Lake Avenue. Opening day was a great success. One
shopper says, "I ate so much food! Everything was so
fresh and delicious."
The market is open every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can buy local fruit and vegetables
like strawberries, apples, corn, and tomatoes. The market
also has fresh cheese, juice, and chicken. After you finish
shopping, get together with friends and have dinner at
the park across from the market. On Saturday evenings,
you can watch a movie at the park. Movies begin at 8:00
p.m. every Saturday during the summer. Have fun!

THREE DAYS IN SALVADOR
Are you looking for a fun time in a beautiful city? Go to Salvador. Salvador is a beautiful city on the
northeast coast of Brazil. We were there for a few days last month and had a great time. The people
were friendly, the weather was hot and sunny, and the nightlife was exciting.
Day 1: We arrived Friday morning. First, we went to our hotel. Then, we visited a really interesting
museum - the Modern Art Museum of Bahia. In the evening, we went to a wonderful
restaurant. After that, we went to a club and danced until 2:00 in the morning.
Day 2: The next morning we 외ept late. After breakfast, we walked around in the Pelourinho district.
It's a historic neighborhood with charming, colorful buildings. We visited some old houses.
Next, we went shopping for some gifts. At night, we went out and listened to samba music.
Day 3: On Sunday, we went to Itaparica Island and relaxed all day. Salvador is a wonderful city, and
we were sad to leave.

a. How old was Shakira when she wrote her first song?

c. When did she win her second Grammy Award?
Shakira was born in 1977 in Colombia. Her mother is Colombian and her father is Lebanese,
and her music is a mix of Latin, Arabic and rock musical styles. Shakira wrote her first song
when she was eight years old and made her first Spanish-language album when she was 14.
Shakira’s first two albums were not a success. Her third album, Piez
Descalzos (Bare Feet), however, sold more than 3 million copies. In
1997, Shakira and her family moved to Miami. She took English
lessons, and soon made her first album in English. The album,
Laundry Service, was number three in the U.S. In
2001, Shakira won her first Grammy Award, for
best Latin pop album.
After that, Shakira’s success
continued. She had two more hit albums
in 2005, and in 2006 she won her second
Grammy, for best Latin rock album. Her
hit song “Waka Waka” was the theme song for
the 2010 World Cup. She is the best-selling
Colombian musician of all time. Shakira is a

This summer I'm taking a trip to Australia with some friends. First, we're
going to spend a few days in Sydney. I have some Australian friends there,
and they might take us on a tour of the city. After that, we're going to take a
train to the beach and go camping for a couple of weeks. We're going to go
kayaking, and we might learn to surf. It's going to be a perfect vacation! See

After that, I'm going to trav시 for a week on my own. I'm going to fly to

home that is not so quiet. Some dads play baseball with
their kids. But when Jeff Tweedy wants to have fun with his

Tweedy has a great job. He’s the lead singer and songwriter

old, but it is now becoming famous. Jeff Tweedy and Wilco

N: T.D. Rahman works at Google. Rahman takes a free
Google bus to work every morning. The bus is very
comfortable, and it has wireless Internet. On the bus, he
reads the news and checks his email. Everyone on this bus
works for Google. The Google buses take about 1,000
workers to and from work every day. The bus is especially
helpful for T.D. He is blind. He creates programs to turn
websites into words. After the free ride to work, T.D.
Rahman has a free breakfast in Google cafe, and he has
lunch there, too. The 8,000 workers at Google
headquarters eat for free at 19 cafes. The food is delicious.
There are many kinds of food: sandwiches, pizza,
vegetarian food, and food from around the world. The
food at Google is the employees’ favorite perk.
Woman: I work more, I do enjoy the food, it’s very tasty.
N: And there are other things that make them happy.
There is a free gym. There are places to sleep. There are
pools to exercise in. There are places to wash your clothes.
Does anybody do any work at Google?

N: In many ways, Sho Yano is a typical ten-year-old. He
does tae kwon do. He plays basketball. He plays with his
friends. But in other ways, Sho is very different from other
ten-year-olds. The other kids are studying math and
reading, but Sho is studying chemistry. Sho is already
going to college. He is the youngest student at his
university, but possibly the student with the highest IQ.
How high is Sho’s IQ?
Sho: I think somewhere around 200, maybe more...
I don’t really think IQ matters.
I: Because?
Sho: It matters how much you work hard.
N: Sho works very hard. On his first chemistry exam, he
scored 106 out of a possible 108. He is also studying biology,
English, and music. He plays classical music on the piano.
He even writes his own songs. Sho is busy, but he spends a
lot of time with his family. Shos father, Katsura, is Japanese.

3.
A: You look happy, Matt.
B: I am happy. I’m going to see my girlfriend tonight.
A: That’s nice. What time are you meeting her?
B: Eight o’clock.
4.
A: What’s the matter, Sue? Are you angry?
B: No, I’m not angry. I’m bored. I’d like to go out tonight.
A: Well, would you like to go see a movie?
B: Yeah. That’s a good idea.
Uillt 4 VIDEO page 26
N: These teenagers are part of a large survey. The survey
wanted to answer the question, “What makes teenagers
happy?” Teenagers said that friends and family make
them happy.
I: What are three things that make you happy?
Boy 1: Friends, family, and sports.
Girl: Love for my friends and family, music, and
probably... money, I guess.
N: In the seven-month survey, researchers talked to
thousands of teenagers. Sometimes teenagers feel angry or
frustrated with their parents. But the study showed that
parents are very important to teenagers. About half of the
teenagers said that one of their parents is their hero.
I: For now, do you want your parents in your life?
Boy 2: I need, yeah... ’cause without parents, I mean,
you’d be really helpless.
Boy 1: It’s nice seeing them at the game, and they’re
cheering me on, you know... just being there to support me.
N: Friends are also very important to teens. 80% said it’s
very or somewhat important to have lots of good friends.
Electronics also make teenagers happy.
Girl: I love my cell phone, and the computer, anything,
like, where I have contact with my friends.
N: The study found that teenagers want to be famous.
I: Do you want to be famous?
Girl: Yes.
I: Why?
Girl: I don’t know. Like, I want to, like, show the world
that I have talent, like, ’cause I do.
I: Do you have aspirations to be famous?
Boy 1: Sure, I’d like to be, but, you know, the chances are
very slim.
N: Teenagers also said that money is important.
Girl: Money is important to happiness... sometimes.
N: 69% of teenagers said they want to be rich. But 51%
think they probably will not be rich. Teenagers think that
money and fame will make them happy in the future. But
for now, they say that family and friends are the most
important things.

A:
What did you do last weekend? Did you watch
any movies?
B: Well, I wanted to, but my sister visited me.
A: And?
B: She has two little boys, and they wanted to play
computer games.
A: Was that all you did?
B: Yeah. Not a very interesting weekend.
2.
A: So, how was your weekend?
B: It was very good.
A: Oh, really? What happened?
B: Well, remember that woman I met at the karaoke club
last month?
A: Yeah...
B: Well, we got together and went out to eat.
A: Hey, that’s great.

3.
A: Did you have a nice weekend?
B: Yeah, I had a good weekend. I got together with some
friends on Friday and Saturday night. We stayed out
late, so now I’m a little tired.
A: So you’re not going out to eat with me?
B: Uh, well, no, not tonight. Sorry!
4.
A: Did you have a good weekend?
B: Yeah, it was great. I met a really cute guy. I think he
likes me.
A: Are you going to see him again?
B: Yeah. Were going to go to a karaoke club next weekend.
Unit 5 VIDEO page 32
Man: Bye, Maisie.
N: The weekend is here. But the Musal family of Glendale,
Arizona, is still working. On Saturday mornings, the
Musals usually get up early and take their daughter to
dance class. Then their son has a baseball or soccer game.
The Musals are a typical family these days. Years ago, the
American weekend was a time for simple activities like
playing in the snow, spending time with family, and
getting together with friends. But today, weekends are
different. So, what do Americans do on weekends?
According to a CBS news survey, 63% of people with kids
between the ages of nine and 17 spend most of their
weekends driving kids to activities. And 73% of parents
often feel like they didn’t really have a weekend.
Woman 1: I wish it was longer.
Woman 2: I’d like to have more days.
Woman 3: More time off from work, yes...
Woman 4: I would change it to be Friday to Monday.
Woman 5: Um, at the end of the weekend I feel, like,
where has it gone, and I can’t believe I have to go back to
work on Monday morning.
N: But people are doing more than driving kids around on
weekends. They also spend a lot of time working and doing
household chores. According to writer John McGrath,
bosses and co-workers expect that we will work on
weekends... that we can always answer emails and phone
calls. People are afraid that if they take time off on the
weekends, other people will think they don’t work hard.
And people these days are afraid they are going to lose their
jobs. So, what can people do to get more free time on the
weekends for themselves and their families? Some U.S.
politicians want to make a law that will give all American
workers a week of paid vacation every year. They feel that
free time is very important, and that we need to make sure
people have time to relax on vacations and weekends.
Unit 5 PRESENTING page 33
I had a really fun weekend. On Saturday morning, I played
soccer with some friends in the park. On Saturday
afternoon, I relaxed at home and read a good book. I went
out to eat with my friends on Saturday night. Then we
went to the movies. We saw The Edge. It’s a great movie!
On Sunday, I went to Six Flags with my family. It’s a big
amusement park. The roller coasters were great!

N: It’s something old, and it’s also something new.
Robert Hammond: Everyone else wanted to tear it
down, or didn’t care.
N: In the 1990s, New York City had plans to destroy these
old train tracks above the city. Then, one man had an
idea.
Robert Hammond: We had no money, no plan, we didn’t
even have a specific vision.
N: Robert Hammond’s idea was a park in the sky... a
garden above the city streets. A group of people worked
together for many years to make a plan. They changed
ugly train tracks into a beautiful city park. The High Line
was born. It’s a great place to go for a walk, to look at art,
to have lunch with a friend, to meet new people. The first
part of the High Line opened in 2009. The second part
opened in 2011. Now, two million people a year visit the
High Line. Half of them are tourists.
Robert Hammond: New York City has these iconic
tourist destinations, we all know — Statue of Liberty,
Empire State Building, Times Square... the High Line is
now getting a lot of people.
Woman: It’s just designed in this very clever way, to mix
the old, and some new architecture, but the 이d and the
new are very carefully intermixed.
N: The High Line is a model for other cities around the
country. In St. Louis, City Garden is a beautiful park that
has completely changed the center of the city. In Houston,
Discovery Green changed an ugly parking lot into a pretty
downtown park. New York City spent a hundred and
fifteen million dollars to start the High Line, but today,
people give money to support it. The High Line created
many new jobs - eight thousand in construction, and
tw이ve thousand in the nearby neighborhood.
Robert Hammond: People love the dream. And yo니
know, this wasn’t just a dream, it was sort of a crazy
dream. And I think people like crazy dreams.

N: Why are all these people — both young and old — at this
art gallery opening on New York’s 5th Avenue? They are here
to meet Kaws - K-A-W-S - a painter, designer, and street
artist. He is one of today’s most popular young artists. For
years, Kaws didn’t like to show his work in galleries. Now,
that has changed. Kaws has always loved art. When he was
a teenager, he was a street artist. He painted on signs and
buildings. His real name is Brian Donnelly. He grew up in
New Jersey, across the river from Manhattan, where you can
still see his art on the sides of buildings. In the 1990s, Kaws
was famous on the streets for painting over bus stop ads. He
painted x-es over eyes. He then started designing clothes
and toys. He also painted cartoon characters that he liked
when he was a child. Ten years later, Kaws became an
international star. Last fall, thousands of fans waited on the
streets of Tokyo outside Kaws’ shop. They wanted to buy a
Star Wars Storm Trooper toy. Kaws only makes a small
number of each product, so most people didn’t get a toy.
Some of musics biggest stars are Kaws fans. Hip-hop star
Pharrell Williams admires Kaws.
Williams: To our generation, were going to look at him
like, he’s the guy that made us pay attention to art.
N: Williams has a lot of Kaws’ art in his house in Miami.
And Kaws has also made art for superstar rapper Kanye
West. Colorful designs by Kaws are on one of West’s album
covers... and on billboards, like this one in Times Square.
Kaws is still happiest in his studio, creating art.
I: How long did this one take you?
Kaws: Probably about three to four weeks, you know, and
that’s... and working on other stuff at the same time.
N: He’s made many new pieces for shows at galleries in
New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. His art can sell for up to
a hundred thousand dollars. At the shows, Kaws meets new
people... and he always makes his fans very, very happy.
Fan: That’s like, really, really cool. I really appreciate it.
Kaws: No problem.

B: Anything else?
A: Yes, some corn.

smells aren’t just coming from the foods.
I: So, do you think the smell in here is coming from these
grapefruits?
Man 1: That’s an interesting question. I know with
modern technology, it could come from a lot of sources.
I: See that little black machine behind you?
Man 1: Whoa!
I: Do you have any idea what that is?
Man 1: What is that thing? Don’t tell me it’s a grapefruit
scent... uh, air, what do they call that, aerator?
N: Actually, they’re called scent air machines. And this
supermarket has five of them. Each machine sends out a
different smell, including grapefruit in the produce section.
Man: I think it’s a grapefruit, isn’t it? Or is it not a
grapefruit?
Woman 1: It is.
N: ...chocolate in the candy aisle.
I: It makes you happy?
Women: Yes.
N: And bread by the bakery.
Man 2: It smells like it’s home.
N: The air machines are part of a marketing strategy.
Supermarket manager: The machine is really small, so
it’s good for us, nobody can see that.
N: The store put in the machines two months ago. The
strategy is simple. The smells make customers hungry.
And when they’re hungry, they spend more money.
I: Does the smell make you hungry?
Man 2: Yeah.
Woman 2: Yeah.
N: Sales in the produce department have gone up seven
percent. Each machine costs ninety-nine dollars a month,
so the machines are a good investment.
I: Where were standing, what are you smelling?
Woman 3: Um, I smell some, I guess, smoked meat...
I: What if I told you that smell was actually being
pumped out of that little black machine over there?
Woman 3: That would be great. I understand. It’s working!
I: It’s working?
Woman 3: Yeah, yeah, it’s working.
N: So the machines are helping this store to make money.
I: Are you going to buy a grapefruit today?
Man 1: Um... I know they are good for me. We didn’t
come for grapefruits, but uh... It’s a...
I: Possibility.

A: Well, I helped a friend move last weekend. Now I have
a backache, and it’s hard to sleep.
B: Ouch. Maybe you should take a hot shower.

A: I don’t have a cold, but I have a sore throat.
B: Would you like some hot tea with honey? That usually

6.
A: I feel so bad. I’m really tired and achy.
B: It sounds like you have the flu. You should stay home
and rest.
If you sprain your ankle, first you should go to the doctor.
The doctor will probably put a bandage on your ankle.
Second, you should wear a brace on your ankle. Next,
elevate your ankle for two to three hours each day. Your
ankle should be higher than your heart. Then put ice on
your ankle. For 24 to 72 hours after you sprain it, put ice
on it every hour or two during the day. Finally, do
exercises to make your ankle stronger.

B: Oh, yeah. That’s why I like it. It’s a big city, and it’s very
crowded. A lot of people everywhere. It’s a really
interesting place.
3.
A: So, how was it?
B: Excellent! Bangkok is a big, noisy city, but it’s very
exciting. And it’s not very expensive.
4.
A: So, what is Quebec City like?
B: Well, it’s a small city. You can walk everywhere, and it’s
really safe. Uh... it’s very charming. And it isn’t noisy
at all.

Unit 10 VIDEO page 66
N: Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. It is in the South
laughter club. Laughter clubs are becoming very popular.
Laughter clubs started about twenty years ago in Bombay,
India. A doctor told his patients that they should laugh.
He said laughing is good for your health. His patients love
the clubs! Now there are around six hundred laughter
clubs in India, and there are laughter clubs in 72
countries. And psychologist Steve Wilson says there
should be a laughter club in every city in the world. Dr.
Wilson thinks that laughter is pretty strong medicine.
Steve Wilson: Come out with your smiles up, and
nobody will get hurt. The World Laughter Tour has a
three-part mission: to lead the world to health, happiness,
and peace through laughter.
N: Dr. Wilson teaches other people to be laughter leaders.
People from all over the world get together to take this class.
Instructor: Let’s just try breathing. How about that to
begin? In...
N: It looks funny, but there is a reason that laughter clubs
work. Laughter connects us as human beings... even when
we don’t speak the same language. In fact, only ten
percent of laughter follows a joke. Studies show that
almost eighty percent of communication is nonverbal.
People can communicate pretty well without word이 Many
studies show that laughter is good for your health. Not all
scientists agree that la니ghter improves health, but it is
clear that laughter makes people feel good. Florence
Ditlow has a disease called Primary Lateral Sclerosis.
Florcence Ditlow: When I laugh, I feel, like, more able to
do what I need to do. I have more energy.
N: Laughter is contagious. When you see other people
laughing, it’s hard not to laugh! So maybe you should join
a laughter club... or start one in your city!

Woman: I’m flying over what’s possibly the biggest city in
the world. It’s the capital city and heart of Mexico...
Mexico City.
N: It’s the center of government, business, finance, and
the arts.
Woman: From up here you get a real sense of just how
big this city is.
N: The city is pretty flat, but it’s very high... two
thousand, four hundred meters above sea level. A long
time ago, Mexico City looked very different. It was called
Tenochtitlan, and it was the center of the Aztec world.
Almost 500 years ago, the Spanish destroyed Tenochtitlan.
They rebuilt it in the Spanish style of architecture, and
called it Mexico City.
Woman: I’m right in the middle of Mexico City in a huge,
bustling, noisy square called Zocalo.
N: The Zocalo is a really, really big square! It is Mexico
City’s historic center, and has a lot of beautiful old
buildings. Shopping in Mexico City is great — you can buy
a lot of souvenirs. But Mexico City also has a financial
district with very modern buildings. It has some really
exciting modern architecture. This modern Mexican
architecture has a lot of bright colors.
Woman: There are something like 25 million people
living in this city. But where?
N: Not many people live in the city center. Most people
live in the suburbs, outside of the city. There are many
different kinds of homes in Mexico City. With its long and
interesting history, beautiful architecture, and great
shopping and restaurants, Mexico City is a wonderful
place to live or visit.

3. I’m always listening to classical music. I really love
Mozart and Beethoven. I often go to concerts at
Symphony Hall. I’m going to a concert this weekend.
Would you like to go with me?
4. Listen to this. I think it’s great, don’t you? I didn’t like

N: Today is December 2nd. Here, in Brazil, it’s National
Samba Day. People are celebrating samba, the national
music and dance of Brazil. There are parties all over the
country today. At this train station in Rio, there is a big
party and people are very happy. Samba has its origins in
African drumming. It developed in Brazil early in the
twentieth century. There are many styles of samba. There
are fast drum bands that play at carnivals and street
parades. And there are also slower styles of samba, like
the samba-canQ^o. In the 1960s, bossa nova music
became popular. It is a fusion of samba and jazz. Today,
samba is still very popular in Brazil. Every year during
Carnaval, samba schools — large groups of up to 5,000
people — wear costumes and perform original music.
Rafael is visiting Rio, and he wants to hear some good live
samba music. He’s asking some Cariocas — that is,
residents of Rio — for some advice.
Man: The other side has a good group to play samba.
Listen. Listen.
Woman: Trapiche-Gamboa!
Rafael: Trapiche-Gamboa?
Woman: Today, we have Gallotti and Grupo
Centelha play!
Rafael: Yes, this is the place. Wow, look at the setting.
People dancing, and everybody singing... I really want to
join these guys.
N: Samba bars like this one are very popular in Brazil.
People come here to listen to music, to sing, to dance...
and even to play instruments!

N: After flowing more than 4,000 kilometers through six
countries, this is where the Mekong River meets the South
China Sea. Most people in the Mekong Delta are farmers
and fishermen. But these days, some people are working
in the hospitality business. They invite tourists to stay at
their homes, and the toursists pay them. Oli is going to do
a homestay - that is, he’s going to live with a Vietnamese
family for a few days and learn about their life.
Grandfather: Hi.
Oli: Nice to meet you. Hello. Nice to meet you. Hi. Hello.
Woman: Chao.
Oli: Hello. Hi. Nice to meet you all. Hello.
Family: Hello.
N: 61-year-old Van Tien and his wife run this very friendly
homestay, together with their children and grandchildren.
The family gets 니p very early to do work around the
house. Oli is enjoying a typical Vietnamese breakfast.
Oli: This smells absolutely fantastic. Everything tastes so
fresh.
N: After breakfast, Oli is going to h이p the family. He is
going with Van Tien’s daughter to get food for today’s
meals. They’re going to get fruit and vegetables at a
floating market. This market was started in the
19th century in the Mekong Delta. It’s very big and very
old. The market is still the same today. Farmers bring
everything here by boat.
Oli: I love pineapple. We’ll get three.
N: After they’re finished shopping, Oli wants to relax...
but his work isn’t done. They need to get fish for dinner.
After a couple of hours, they know they aren’t going to
catch any fish like this. It’s almost time for dinner, so they
decide to catch fish a different way.
Oli: Look at the size of that. Now that’s a fish!
N: The fish is fresh... and delicious! After dinner, Van Tien
plays the mandolin.
Oli: Now, the national motto of Vietnam is “freedom,
independence and happiness’’ and the key to finding
all three, in my opinion, is to try a homestay in the Mekong
D이ta, especially with a wonderful family like mine.
A: How long are you going to be in Argentina, David?
B: A month.
A: A month? That’s great! What are you planning to
do there?
B: Well, I arrive in Buenos Aires early on Sunday. And the
first thing I’m going to do is take a guided tour of the
city. You know, a walking tour.
A: That sounds nice. Buenos Aires is a charming city.
B: Yeah. I’m going to stay there for about a week. And
then I’m going to take a train trip up into the
mountains.
A: On your own?
B: No, I’m going to travel with some friends from Buenos
Aires. Were going to go on a backpacking trip.
A: That sounds exciting.
B: Yeah, and then were going to go skiing for a week.
