Child Sacrifice for Utopia: An Argumentative Essay

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
Would you kill an innocent child who will serve as a sacrifice in exchange of utopia or a perfect world
full of happiness and unending bliss?
We live in a world full of miseries. Miseries come in different forms. They can be in the form of
disasters, injustices, poverty, fears, negativities and many more. If you were given the chance to get rid
of all the misery in this world, but at the cost of a child’s life, would you take it? If the death of an
innocent child means a world with eternal bliss, would you kill the child? Well, if I am to answer that
question, I’d say that a child’s life is not worth sacrificing for the sake of flawed beings to attain a perfect
world full of happiness and bliss. Why? Because a perfect world is unattainable for insatiable beings, and
we are bound to experience misery for us to be able to recognize happiness and bliss.
Humans are immanently unquenchable beings. Once we reach or have what we desire, we tend
to want more. We do not settle for less. This behavior is the root of all misery in this world: wars,
poverty, killings, disputes. Our insatiability is the core of our imperfection. It is unfitting for imperfect
people to live in a perfect world. One of them will likely turn into the other, and the possibility for a
perfect world to turn imperfect is higher. Humans will never achieve such perfection. Hence, a child’s
sacrifice will go down the drain because a utopian world is not possible for fallible beings. Another point
why I’d choose to not kill a child for happiness and bliss, is because we will never know what happiness
is without knowing pain. A utopian world with unending bliss and happiness is just an ideal one because
misery defines what happiness is. Our miseries are supposed to make happiness sweeter.
On the other hand, why don’t I give it a try. It’s just one life in trade of a perfect life for others.
To assume that imperfect people will turn a perfect world into an imperfect one is removing in the
picture the capacity of humans to change. Think about this, humans are bound to cope with the kind of
conditions in their environment, so they are likely to live ideally in an ideal world. Therefore, a child’s
sacrifice, at some point, will be worth it in exchange for a perfect world. In addition, happiness and bliss
will be the only thing known. While the depth of happiness cannot be defined, at least in that world
misery is out of the frame.
However, the reasons to kill a child in exchange for an immaculate world is absurd. How can you
live in a perfect world when it was attained wrongfully? It is no different from a thief who spends stolen
money nonchalantly. Likewise, happiness and misery are twin emotions. The pinnacle of happiness can
only be defined by the depth of misery one has experienced. Happiness is meaningless without misery
to define the importance of bliss.
In conclusion, a utopian world with unending bliss and happiness is just an ideal one for it is
unobtainable. Humans, who are naturally flawed, will never achieve such perfection. It is senseless to
sacrifice an innocent child’s life and a foolish on my part to kill someone in trade of something
unrealistic.
