SAI BUILDING in Tondo Simpy Fell Like a tree

Commercial-residential
building located at the corner of Padre
Rada and Juan Luna streets in Divisoria,
Tondo Manila is named SAI Building.
Sai Building is an eight-story building
and five years of old. It is owned by a
businessman Ajit Mansukhani and
Engineered by Harry Wong.
Incident:
July 23, 2004 Friday, Early in the morning 10:30 a.m. a loud sound was heard by a resident
named Ernesto Ozaeta near the incident, like a transformer had exploded. A security guard at
insular bank went outside and saw that the building had already tilted on its side and immediately
called the authorities. At around 1 p.m., the owner Ajit Mansukhani arrived at the scene with his
building engineer Harry Wong to supervise and assess the situation. Around 4:40 of the afternoon,
the structure already began crashing down on the other side across the street adjacent to the Italy
Marketing Building. According to the reports, there were no fatalities and some minor injuries only
recorded from the incident. The conducted investigation from experts confirmed that there were
used sub-standard materials in the construction, and there was a structure and settlement
failure.
Violation:
The said building failed to follow the required foundations and leads to structure and
settlement failure. The building must transmit building loads to the rock or soil on which it rests.
The building settle so much lead to damage structure and impair function. The building suffer from
differential settlement that causes damage to finishes, cladding, and other components where
building becomes distorted. Non-the-less, the use of sub-standard materials on constructing SAI
building cause the building factors to collapsed.
