Persuasive Writing Checklist
Introduction
 A hook that engages the reader- we recommend a rhetorical question.
 A description of the topic - What is the problem or issue that you are discussing?
 Your opinion - What is your position on this issue? Are you for or against it?
 A Summary of the arguments you will make - In one sentence, very briefly state your
main points.
Body Paragraphs
 I have written each argument in a new paragraph
 My arguments are written in order of importance
 My argument is clearly stated in the first sentence
 I have included 2-3 examples/evidence to support my arguments (facts/statistics,
personal stories/anecdotes, quotes from an expert or reliable source, exaggeration and
high modal language).
Conclusion
 I have restated my opinion/position of the topic
 I have restated my arguments
 I have included a strong closing statement
Additional things I have included
Correct punctuation and spelling
 Capital letters
 Full stops
 Other punctuation marks
 All words are spelt correctly
