discuss first the cultural background of
Sinulog festival.
Sinulog Festival is one of the famous
festivals here in the Philippines.
What city of Visayas celebrates Sinulog?
You are correct!
The Sinulog Festival is one of the
grandest, most distinguished and most
colorful festivals in the Philippines. The
major festival is held each year in Cebu
City to honor the Santo Niño, or the
child Jesus who used to be the patron
saint of the whole province of Cebu. It is
fundamentally a dance ritual which
remembers the Filipino people’s pagan
past and their recognition of
Christianity.
Sinulog is a dance ritual in honor of the
miraculous image of Santo Niño.
The dance moves two steps forward
and one step backwards to the sound
of the drums. This movement resembles
the current (Sulog) of what was known
as Cebu’s Pahina River. Thus, in
Cebuano, it’s Sinulog.
They also used, gongs, trumpets and
other band instruments.
The tempo of the Sinulog Festival is
upbeat music or fast tempo.
The dynamic of the music sometimes it’s
loud and soft sound. It depends on the

arrival of Christianity in
the Philippines.
The class will group
themselves into four.
Sinulog festival is a
dance ritual in honor
of the miraculous
image of Santo Niño
which was the patron
saint of Cebu. The
image was given to
the people by the
Spaniards led by
Magellan.
The music sometimes
it’s loud and soft
sound. It depends on
the intense part of the
music.
Ma’am, we can
promote and
preserve Filipino
culture by joining
school and
community events,
like festivals and
performances.
Sharing traditions
through social media,
storytelling, and
educational activities
also helps.
Teaching younger
generations and
practicing our
customs daily will
keep our culture
alive.
I can apply faith by
believing in myself,
perseverance by
never giving up on
challenges, and unity
by working well with
others. These values
help me become a
better student and
person."
That’s right! The Sinulog Festival teaches
us important values like faith,
perseverance, and unity, which we can
apply in our daily lives. By believing in
ourselves, working hard, and supporting
one another, we can overcome
challenges and grow as individuals.
Let’s continue to carry these values in
our studies and interactions with others.
