Referenced documents: The following documents form part of this specification to the extent that they are specified herein. ASTM A488 Standard Practice for Steel Castings, Welding, Qualifications of Procedures and Personnel ASTM A743 Standard Specification for Castings, Iron Chromium Nickel, Corrosion Resistant for General Applications ASTM A957 Specification for Investment Castings, Steel and Alloy, Common Requirements for General Industrial Use ASTM A997 Standard Practice for Investment Castings, Surface Acceptance Standards, Visual Standards ASTM E1742 Radiographic Examination ASTM E192 Reference Radiographs of Investment Steel Castings for Aerospace Application AMS 2175 Castings, Classification and Inspection of Requirements: General: The castings shall be produced using the investment casting process. Each part number shall have a casting x Manufacturing process plan x Characteristic control plan (CCP). This shall include details of tooling, waxing, shell manufacturing and refractories used with buildup methods, melting and pouring, and cleaning and inspection/ repair methods used in the manufacture of individual parts. The CCP shall be available to GETS quality/engineering and sourcing personal as part of both NCI and audit tasks. x Evidence of conformance to both shall be used to satisfy any NCI or audits carried out by the purchaser x Weld Repair of castings shall be using qualified welding procedures and qualified welders per ASTM A488 x The requirements of ASTM A957 form an integral part of this specification. x Each casting shall be marked at a location indicated per the part drawing Date of Issue Written By Jan15,2012 AW Giammarise Appro d Mgr. Additional Residual Element limits. Additional Residual Element Phosphorus x x % by weight Max 0.015 Heat Analysis shall be obtained and reported for each heat per ASTM A957. Product Analysis may be made by purchaser per ASTM A957 Heat Treatment Shall be per A743/A743M Table 1, Heat Treat Requirements, except final temper: x Heat to 1850°F [1010°C] minimum, air cool to 200°F [95°C] or lower prior to any optional intermediate temper and prior to the final temper. x The final temper shall be not less 1125°F (607C) Mechanical Properties Each heat of steel shall have a representative test coupon separately cast to determine conformance with the tensile test requirements and reported. The test coupon shall be per ASTM A957, figure 4. The required mechanical properties shall be as listed here in Table 2. The properties herein are as cast and thermally treated properties. The quality zones used here are as similar to the grades identified in AMS 2175, Castings, Classification and Inspection of. Here as follows are the grades utilized by GETS: x Grade B- limited regions within the casting where secondary welding operations require very tight surface and internal soundness. x Grade C- regions within a casting where stresses require moderately good overall surface and internal soundness x Grade D- regions of lower stress that are more easily produced, and primarily non-critical locations within the casting. In the case of part drawing w/o identification of critical regions then this is the default quality grade. Each Casting shall be inspected with an inspection sequence per AMS2175 Definition of Foundry terms per AMS 2175 Repair by Welding In accordance with ASTM A743 requirements and the following: x Welders shall be qualified Using ASTM A488 or equivalent x Each casting weld repaired shall be re-tempered after welding Date of Issue Written By Jan15,2012 AW Giammarise Appro d Mgr. Visual Acceptance: x The casting shall be free of foreign material, and shall not contain cracks, hot tears, cold shuts, and negative core seams. Surface roughness; x Shall be in conformance with the part drawing Any additional surface features such as pits, positive metal, parting line defects x Shall be per ASTM A997 level ll Radiography Locations: as identified in a CCP and the part drawing. Frequency: x During NCI and prior to final NCI acceptance per Table 2 Sampling, Radiographic Inspection of Class 3 Castings, AMS 2175 x After NCI Acceptance radiography is not required unless either process changes initiated by CCP or required by decay of overall quality indications. Method: ASTM E1742 per AMS 2175 Radiography Acceptance: ASTM E192 in conjunction with Table 8 AMS 2175; “Table 8- Maximum Permissible Radiographic Severity Levels for Discontinuities in Investment Steel Castings 1 inch (25.4mm) Wall or less per ASTM E192” x Regions marked as Critical shall be Grade C Table 8, all discontinuity types x Regions marked as Critical with subsequent welding in this region shall be Grade B Table 8, all discontinuity types x Regions not marked, or the remainder of the casting shall be Grade D Table 8, all discontinuity types Date of Issue Written By Jan15,2012 AW Giammarise Appro d Mgr.
