Requirements:
General:
The castings shall be produced using the investment casting process.
Each part number shall have a casting
x Manufacturing process plan
x Characteristic control plan (CCP). This shall include details of tooling, waxing, shell
manufacturing and refractories used with buildup methods, melting and pouring, and
cleaning and inspection/ repair methods used in the manufacture of individual parts. The CCP
shall be available to GETS quality/engineering and sourcing personal as part of both NCI and
audit tasks.
x Evidence of conformance to both shall be used to satisfy any NCI or audits carried out by the
purchaser
x Weld Repair of castings shall be using qualified welding procedures and qualified welders per
ASTM A488
x The requirements of ASTM A957 form an integral part of this specification.
x Each casting shall be marked at a location indicated per the part drawing

Quality
General
Each part drawing shall identify the quality regions in the castings needed to determine the extent of
both surface and internal soundness inspections used for part acceptance. The quality zones used
here are as similar to the grades identified in AMS 2175, Castings, Classification and Inspection of.
Here as follows are the grades utilized by GETS:
x Grade B- limited regions within the casting where secondary welding operations require very
tight surface and internal soundness.
x Grade C- regions within a casting where stresses require moderately good overall surface and
internal soundness
x Grade D- regions of lower stress that are more easily produced, and primarily non-critical
locations within the casting. In the case of part drawing w/o identification of critical regions
then this is the default quality grade.
Each Casting shall be inspected with an inspection sequence per AMS2175
Definition of Foundry terms per AMS 2175
Repair by Welding
In accordance with ASTM A743 requirements and the following:
x Welders shall be qualified Using ASTM A488 or equivalent
x Each casting weld repaired shall be re-tempered after welding

x During NCI and prior to final NCI acceptance per Table 2 Sampling, Radiographic
Inspection of Class 3 Castings, AMS 2175
x After NCI Acceptance radiography is not required unless either process changes
initiated by CCP or required by decay of overall quality indications.
Method: ASTM E1742 per AMS 2175
Radiography Acceptance:
