A level PHYSICS WORKSHEET: CENTRIPETAL FORCE
The maximum frictional force between the mass
and plate would be equal to the maximum
centripetal force acting on the mass before it
slides off the plate. So, we can equate the formula
for centripetal force, which is equal to the product
of mass, radius, and the square of the angular
speed, with the value of the maximum frictional
force, 0.72W, in order to find the maximum
number of revolutions per minute. In the end, after
we’ve found the value of the angular speed per
minute, we can divide this by the number of
radians in 1 revolution, 2 pi, in order to get the
final result, which we round down.
