Faith Herndon Mr. Moungey H European Literature 22 January, 2025 The Brain and a New Location Reading about the head and brain transplants feels like stepping into the future. It’s both fascinating and unsettling to think about how close we could be to something that has only existed in science fiction. The ethical dilemmas alone are overwhelming and deciding who receives this surgery or whose body gets donated isn’t something we’ve ever had to consider before. Personally, it raises so many questions about fairness and consent. What really surprised me was how technically complex this is. The idea of connecting nerves, ensuring blood flow to the brain, and preventing immune rejection is beyond anything I can even begin to imagine or process. It makes me wonder if it’s even worth attempting when the chances of success seem so slim. The fact that it hasn’t worked on animals yet adds another layer of doubt as well. But at the same time, someone has to try eventually if progress is ever going to be made. The part about using a young body for an old brain stood out to me the most, however. It’s almost like the ultimate anti-aging procedure. People talk about living forever or extending life through different methods, but putting an aging brain into a younger, healthier body feels like the most extreme version of that. It also prompted me to think on how that would even affect someone mentally. Would they feel like themselves, or would their brain struggle to adapt to a new body? Even though the article brings up valid points about technology catching up, it still feels like our science is underdeveloped and that we are so far away from this becoming a reality. I am also not sure how I would feel if this did become possible. Would people lose their sense of identity? Would it only be available to the wealthy, creativo more inequality? It raises so many questions. The entire thing is so fascinating yet so disturbing at the same time. In the end, while this is an amazing concept, it seems like there are more questions than answers. I’m not sure if I would ever want something like this to happen in my lifetime, but it’s definitely something that will spark debates for years to come.
