Purpose: The purpose of generating this method statement is to define the procedure step by step to implement the correct practices for Installations Termination of LV cable including the lighting and Small Power System-Socket/Receptacle guidelines contained herein so as to ensure that the job execution complies with requirements and serves the intended function to satisfactory level 2. Scope of Work: This Method Statement outlines the procedures for the installation of LV Cables for lighting circuits, small power circuits, and associated socket/ receptacle installations, the work includes the following: Cable routing and installation Termination of cables at lighting fixtures, sockets, and receptacles Testing and commissioning of the installed circuits 3. Responsibility: The following personnel will be responsible for the execution of this work: Site Supervisor/Site Engineer: Oversee installation operations and ensure safety for the workers and foreman that manually do the installation. Electrical Team: Cable Pulling and Testing the LV Cable, assess the termination of lighting and Small Power System. Safety Officer: Ensure all safety measures are followed. Quality Control Team: Ensure the structure is installed as per design specifications. 4. Materials and Equipment: Materials: o LV Cable o Conduit o Junction Boxes o Lighting Fixtures o Sockets and Receptacles o Termination Components (e.g., terminals, connectors) o Supporting Hardware (e.g., cable ties, clips, brackets) Equipment: o Forklift. o Backhoe. o LV Cable Cutter. o Sand Insulation. o Measuring Tape. o Personal protective equipment (PPE): Helmets, gloves, safety harnesses, etc. o Loader 5. Equipment Check: Inspect Forklift, backhoe, and other tools for proper functioning and safety compliance. Safety Measures: Ensure that all safety procedures, such as fall protection, are in place and that all team members are briefed on the risks and precautions. 6. Installation Procedures: 6.1 Cable Routing and Installation o Planning: o Review the electrical drawings and specifications to determine the routes and installation methods o Consider factors like accessibility, structural features, and fire safety requirements. o Conduit Installation (if applicable) o Install conduit runs according to the specified size and material. o Secure the conduit to walls, ceilings, and floors using appropriate supports. o Cable pulling: o Carefully pull the LV cables through the conduit or along the designated routes. o Ensure the cables are properly supported and protected from damage during pulling. o Cable Fixing: o Secure the cables using appropriate cables ties, clips, or brackets. o Maintain adequate spacing and separation between cables. 6.2 Termination of Cables: o Lighting Fixtures: Strip the cable insulation and connect the wires to the terminals of the lighting fixture according to the wiring diagram. o Ensure proper polarity (neutral, live, earth). o Secure the wiring connections with terminal screws or other suitable methods. o Sockets Receptacles: o Follow the same procedures as for lighting fixtures, ensuring the correct wire connections and polarity. o Secure the sockets and receptacles to the surface using appropriate screws or mounting plates. o Junction Boxes: o Install junction boxes at appropriate locations to allow for cable connections and branching. o Ensure the boxes are securely fixed and properly sealed. o Connect the cables to the terminals within the junction box according to the wiring diagram. 6.3 Testing and Commissioning: Circuit Continuity: Use a multimeter to test the continuity of each installed circuit to ensure there are no breaks in the wiring. Polarity Check: Verify that the live neutral, and earth wires are connected correctly to the fixtures, sockets, and receptacles. Insulations Resistance Test: Conduct an insulation resistance test to check for any faults or insulation breakdown. Earth Continuity Test: Verify the continuity of the earth wire to ensure proper grounding. Functional Test: Power up the circuits and test the operation of the lighting fixtures, sockets, and receptacles. 7. Quality Control: Inspection: Inspect the installed LV cables and components to ensure they meet the project specifications and industry standards. Ensure all connections and properly terminated and secured. Documentation: Record the results of all tests and inspections.
