Guide by Mr GT Mogopodi :GRADE 9 EXPONENT LAWS 1.This section is based on the logic of multiplaying and dividing quantity i.e (X ,Y, k...etc) note that a quantity can be any letter, as it represent unknown value.In some books they call it a variable.On the other hand let us say we have a variable to the power of a constant,that constant it is an EXPONENT. i.e m²or k³...etc,that 2 and 3 we call them exponents.However on some cases exponets can also be variables. 1.1LAW 1.WHEN MULTIPLAYING SAME BASES WE ADD THE EXPONENTS i.e) B²×B²=B⁴ 1.1.1 ALTERNETIVE LAW1.WHEN MULTIPLAYING 2 BASES IF AND ONLY IF THEY HAVE THE SAME EXPONENTS YOU CAN MULTIPLY THE 2 BASE TOGETHER and keep only one exponet without adding them i.e) A²×B²=(AB)² Example1: 2²×3²=6² 1.2LAW 2:WHEN DEVIDING SAME BASES WE SUBTRACT THE EXPONENTS i.e) B⁴÷B=B³(the is no alternetive) Major Examples:
