1.1.1 What is the meaning of the acronym ATM?

1.1.2 Hope is renting a room for R2000 per month. She claims that if
she uses Standard Bank and makes a Stop Oder for this amount,
the bank will charge her a transaction fee of R17, 00. Use
calculations to show that her claim is valid.

1.1.3 Karabo, Hope’s friend uses Nedbank. She makes a cash
withdrawal of R550 rand at a Nedbank ATM. Calculate her bank
charges for this transaction.

Hope decides that she will want to further her education after 3 years of
working. She makes enquiries and learns that she will need R35 000 for
her post graduate programme. Hope decides to invest her birthday
present of US$1900 which was sent to her by her brother who works as a
mechanical engineer in the United States of America. She finds an
investment that offers 12% interest compounded annually.
1.2.1 Convert US$1900 to South African Rand. (Hint: US$1= R14.7368) (2)
1.2.2 Calculate the amount of money that will be in Hope’s investment
account at the end of 3 years.

The university fees increased at an Inflation rate of 5% per annum over
the three years that Hope invested her money.
1.3.1 Define the term inflation.

Lesego and Shoki are planning to run a small business. They want to buy
tinned foods in bulk, package and resell them. They have two options of
packaging boxes that can be used. Use the information on Table 2 to answer
the following questions.
