1.1 12288 Output Power(dBm)
Performance Description
l
Meaning
Output Power means the power of optical signals transmitted by an optical port.
l
Performance detection
It is an analog performance indicator. Samples are collected by hardware or an optical
module in real time, and the data in a hardware register is read by software periodically
(every second) to obtain performance samples.
l
Impact or usage
à
If the output power of an optical port is too small, optical signals cannot be properly
restored at the downstream. If the output power of an optical port is too large, the
downstream laser or human eyes may be damaged.
à
If multiple wavelengths are multiplexed into one optical fiber at the downstream,
the power of these wavelengths should be balanced. Otherwise, multiplexing or
demultiplexing may fail.
à
This performance indicator can be used in different physical locations. The power
range varies with physical locations.

Chapter 1 Optical Performances
It is an analog performance indicator. Samples are collected by hardware or an optical
module in real time, and the data in a hardware register is read by software periodically
(every second) to obtain performance samples.
l
l
Impact or usage
à
The combined effects of reflect power and normal output power result in signal
deviation and laser instability. If the reflect power is too large, the laser may be
damaged (including its outer end face, which may be permanently damaged).
à
For a cross-section pure optical system, reflected lights may be accumulated in
multiple sections, which may affect system stability. Therefore, the reflect power
should be within a specific range.
à
Optical modules of service boards have a low power, and thus cross-section
accumulation will not occur. These modules are not monitored. For large-power
pure optical components, such as a pumped laser of an OA board, cross-section
accumulation may occur. In this case, the reflect power should be monitored.
Cause for abnormal performance
If reflect power is abnormal, it is possibly because the outer section of a laser may be
irregular, unclean, or improperly connected. In that case, clean and check the laser
interface.

module in real time, and the data in a hardware register is read by software periodically
(every second) to obtain performance samples.
l
Impact or usage
à
If input power is smaller than sensitive power, code errors may occur. If input
power continues to drop, frame loss or even LOS may occur.
à
If input power is above the reception overload point, code errors, frame loss,
or even LOS may occur, and too strong an input power may damage optical
receivers.

2.9 12300 Laser Temperature offset(Celsius)
Performance Description
l
Meaning
Laser Temperature offset means the offset of the current core temperature of a laser
against the temperature that is set for normal operation.
l
Performance detection
It is an analog performance indicator. Samples are collected by hardware or an optical
module in real time, and the data in a hardware register is read by software periodically
(every second) to obtain performance samples.
l
l
Impact or usage
à
If the core temperature offset of a laser exceeds a limit, the transmitting power
or wavelength of the laser may be abnormal. As a result, services may not be
properly transmitted, and even the local laser and downstream lasers may be
damaged.
à
The range of laser temperature offset varies with module design.
For
most modules, laser temperature offset ranges from -10 °C to 10 °C (A
threshold-crossing alarm should be produced if the temperature exceeds 5 °C.)
à
If the temperature offset of a laser exceeds its range, the downstream optical
power or wavelength of the laser becomes abnormal, which affect downstream
services or the system. Therefore, if the temperature offset of the laser exceeds
its range, the laser is automatically closed by software to protect the system.
Cause for abnormal performance

temperature or control circuits of the laser. If the temperature offset is abnormal, check

its range, the laser is automatically closed by software to protect the system.
Cause for abnormal performance
In most cases, abnormal temperature offset of a laser is due to abnormal internal
temperature or control circuits of the laser. If the temperature offset is abnormal, check
the operating temperature of the laser, or replace the laser with a good one.

2.11 12302 Min Laser Temperature Offset(Celsius)
Performance Description
l
Meaning
Min Laser Temperature Offset means the minimum temperature offset of a laser within
a statistical period (15 minutes in most cases).
l
Performance detection
It is an analog performance indicator. Samples are collected by hardware or an optical
module in real time, and the data in a hardware register is read by software periodically
(every 15 minutes in most cases) to obtain performance samples.
l

2.31 12582 Min Fan Speed(rps)
Performance Description
l
Meaning
Min Fan Speed means the minimum rotation speed of a fan in a subrack within a
statistical period (15 minutes in most cases).
l
Performance detection
It is an analog performance indicator. Samples are collected by the speed sensor of a
fan, and the data in the register of the corresponding fan controller is read by software
periodically (every second) to obtain performance samples for measurement within a
period (15 minutes in most cases).
l
Impact or usage
à
This performance indicator is controlled automatically based on the detection
points in the rack.
à
If the rotation speed of a fan does not comply with the expected speed calculated
by a control algorithm, the alarm of "FAN Speed Abnormal Alarm" should be

produced. If the rotation speed exceeds its threshold, the alarm of "FAN Alarm"
should also be produced.
à
l
If the rotation speed is abnormal, errors may occur in fan control, and subrack
ventilation may not be as good as expected. If the rotation speed exceeds its
threshold, abnormal noise or fatigue of the fan may occur. In addition, subrack
ventilation may not be as good as expected because the rotation speed reaches
its limit.
Cause for abnormal performance
à
If the rotation speed of a fan is abnormal, verify that the fan status and
temperature of detection points are normal, software algorithms are under
control, and the fan has no hardware failures.
à
If the rotation speed of a fan exceeds its threshold, verify that subrack ventilation
is good, air channels are not blocked, and the ambient temperature of the subrack
is suitable.

Normal Counters
Normal counters are used for normal counting supported by data services.
Table of Contents
33817 Received Packet Count ...................................................................................3-1
33824 Transmitted Packet Count ...............................................................................3-2
3.1 33817 Received Packet Count
Performance Description
l
Meaning
Received Packet Count means the total number of data packets received by a port,
including normal, damaged, broadcast, and multicast data packets.
l
Performance detection
It is a digital performance indicator. It should accurately reflect the number of data
packets received by a device. Whenever a data packet is received, the counter is
increased by 1, as long as the counter is not cleared (or the measurement period
does not end).
This indicator is expressed in four bytes. The maximum sampling amount is 4 GB.
The counter is cleared after reaching the maximum sampling amount.
l
Impact or usage
à
This performance indicator monitors the throughput of a data port and analyzes
the characteristics of data traffic.
à
If the number of received data packets is too small, it indicates that the port is
idle. If the number of received data packets is too large, it indicates that the port
is busy.
à
By comparing the number of valid data packets and that of invalid data packets
among all received data packets, you can determine the quality of the upstream
link.
à
By comparing data packets of different lengths, and the number of unicast or
multicast data packets, you can learn the characteristics of data traffic.
