According to the US Energy Information Association,
the U.S. alone consumed an average of 20.5 million barrels
of petroleum a day in 2018. This amounts to around 7.5
billion barrels over the year and approximately 22% of total
world petroleum consumption.
The world's dependence on oil and gas is increasing as
global economies and infrastructure continue to rely
heavily on petroleum-based products. Discussions of when
world oil and gas production will peak seem to be on the
periphery, even amid a weakened global economy and the
shrinking availability of oil. Indeed, the oil and gas
industry continues to wield incredible influence in
international economics and politics - especially in
consideration of employment levels in the sector, with the
U.S. oil and gas industry supporting at least 10 million jobs.
Welcome Message
Distinguished Participants,
It is my honor to invite you to the “22nd World Petroleum
Congress (WPC)” that will be held on 9-13 July, 2020 in
İstanbul, under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic
of Turkey.
Our world is in a transitional period in which we are witnessing
significant developments in the global energy agenda. In such a
new global business environment, where ‘cooperation’ is the
key word, the 22nd WPC will provide a suitable platform for
our discussions.
Company Target
The Science Based Targets initiative is developing a technical
paper to set targets for the oil and gas sector. The aim of this
project is to develop a method and tools for how to determine a
science-based target for fossil fuel extraction companies. Please
contact us if your company or organization is interested in
engaging in this process.
The project starting point is embedded emissions
in fuel supplied, but it will seek to expand also to
Scope 1 emissions (energy and CH4 process
emissions).
At a later stage the project should consider Scope
2 and links to refinery and petrochemical
industry, linking to the Chemical Industry project

The assessment system has 3 obvious characteristics as
follows:
(1) The assessment method was established aiming at the
features of basin and play
(2) The assessment methods for basin, play and block all
were established according to genesis, analogy and
statistic methods
(3) The assessment system was validated with multi-method
and used in the matured areas. According to the
different exploration degree and different assessment
objects, the corresponding assessment methods were
established.
