**The skill will need to be repeated following additional practice if:
1. Sterile gloves are not applied properly in two attempts
2. The student has more than 1 identified or unidentified sterile breaks
3. A medication error is made
4. Head to toe assessment-if more than 2 sections are missed or incorrect
technique is performed more than 2 times.
Safe nursing practice is an essential component of patient care. Therefore, if faculty
determines that the student is not yet competent to perform the skill safely in a clinical
setting, student will need remediation (repeat the competency skill check-off) regardless of
the total points achieved.
