Summary of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragic love story set in Verona, Italy. It tells the tale of two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who come from feuding families. Despite their families' animosity, the two meet at a Capulet party, fall in love instantly, and secretly marry the next day with the help of Friar Laurence.
