Grow Your Mind, we will watch your young ones while you do it.
Northwest Vista College is a community college located in San Antonio, Texas. The
college serves a diverse student population, many of whom are working parents with young
children. One of the biggest challenges facing these students is finding affordable, high-quality
childcare options while they attend classes and study. Without access to reliable childcare, these
students may struggle to complete their degrees or advance their careers. Therefore, the need for
an in-campus child daycare center is crucial for the success of these students.
We propose the establishment of an in-campus child daycare center for Northwest Vista
College. This center will provide affordable, high-quality childcare services to students, faculty,
and staff, creating a more supportive and inclusive campus environment. By offering a safe and
nurturing environment for young children, we aim to help students complete their degrees and
achieve their goals, while also promoting the well-being of the entire campus community.
Research has shown that access to high-quality childcare is essential for the success of
college students with young children. A study by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research
found that parents with young children who had access to high-quality childcare were more
likely to graduate from college and earn higher salaries than those who did not. Furthermore, a
survey of Northwest Vista College students conducted by the college's student government
Ramirez-Cofresi 2
association found that 70% of respondents reported difficulty finding affordable and convenient
childcare options.
The in-campus child daycare center will provide a safe and nurturing environment for
children while their parents attend classes and study. It will be staffed by trained professionals
who are dedicated to providing high-quality care, education, and developmental support for
young children. The center will offer age-appropriate activities and educational opportunities that
will promote the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children. Additionally, the
center will provide a convenient and affordable option for students, faculty, and staff, reducing
the stress and financial burden of finding off-campus childcare.
The feasibility of the in-campus child daycare center will depend on several factors,
including the availability of space on campus, staffing and licensing requirements, and funding.
The proposed budget for the daycare center is $1000. This budget will cover the initial costs of
setting up the center, including purchasing equipment, supplies, and furniture. The ongoing
operational costs of the center, including staff salaries and maintenance, will be covered through
student fees and other sources of funding.
In conclusion, the establishment of an in-campus child daycare center for Northwest
Vista College is essential for the success and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. By
providing affordable, high-quality childcare services, we can support students as they work
towards their degrees and achieve their goals, while also promoting a more inclusive and
supportive campus community. The proposed budget of $1000 will cover the initial setup costs,
with ongoing operational costs to be covered through student fees and other sources of funding.
With the establishment of the daycare center, Northwest Vista College can become a leader in
supporting student parents and promoting educational attainment for all students.
