1a)The three causes of overshoot are growth, acceleration and rapid change; limit or barrier, in which beyond the moving system may not safely good; delay or mistake in the perceptions and the responses that strive to keep the system within its limits. Humanity is at risk because growth in the globe’s population and material economy confronts humanity. One insight I gained from the chapter “Overshoot” is that humanity’s growth will lead to the planet’s downfall if as human activities inflict harsh and irreversible damage on the environment and resources. The central thesis from the chapter “Overshoot” is the understanding of overshoot and the causes and consequences of a population and economy that have grown past the support capacities of the earth. One question I have after reading the chapter “Learning to Thrive: Educating Singapore’s Children for a Climate-Changed World” is that if Singapore education is taught with virtues such as collaboration and systems-thinking instead of competition and individualism. Are we still able to produce a workforce that can compete globally and successful leaders that can lead Singapore?
