VIII. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE:
Grammar is defined as "a system of rules governing the conventional arrangement
and relationship of words in a sentence," and it can help with foreign language
acquisition and cultivating comprehensive language competence. Grammar is viewed
as a framework for English learning by the majority of teachers. Teachers' grammar
teaching beliefs can influence their practical teaching behaviors in class, resulting in
different teaching outcomes.
Learning a language's grammar is an essential part of learning a second or foreign
language. According to research on teacher beliefs, teacher language awareness (TLA),
and grammar teaching, the majority of English language teachers understand the
importance of teaching grammar. At the same time, many teachers do not have
enough grammatical awareness or appropriate skills to successfully impart grammatical

Grammatical competence is defined as the ability to recognize and produce a

mother tongue, is the tacit knowledge that allows him to form and interpret words,
phrases, and sentences in his native language.
Moreover, it has been found in some researches conducted over a considerable
period of time that the teaching of school grammar has “little or no effect on students”.
Therefore, in this seminar, it will aid the participants to understand the tricks of the trade how they can polish their grammar as well as phonology and the correct approaches to
help their students achieve the same.
In this regard, “Grammified: Recalibrating Grammar Knowledge and Teaching
Strategies of Elementary Teachers” is a seminar for teachers on ‘Teaching English
Grammar and Phonology’ which is designed and developed to acquaint aspiring as well
as working teachers with adequate knowledge on English Phonetics & Grammar. The
seminar will help provide specialized knowledge and latest information on phonology
and grammar that will provide participants with complete guidance on the correct
pronunciation and grammatical skills and the methods to convey those to learners of all
age.
