K.Moldenhauer Resume 2022 IOD REVIEW

advertisement
Your resume is the key to unlocking interviews, job offers, and your path toward a successful career. It takes time
to find the right format and experiences to include that will help you stand out from the crowd in your applications.
This guide will accelerate that process by passing on the knowledge from Internship on Demand Founder, Keegan
Moldenhauer.
From Keegan – “This is the exact resume that helped me land my first full-time job with Sub-Zero group. Like
many students, I felt behind my peers. I didn’t land my first internship until my senior year. It was difficult
navigating my initial career steps without the network to scale my opportunities. Eventually my co-op with Kohler
opened the door to a successful career. I want to share my resume, and how it changed over time, as a way to help
students navigate their career journey. There is always room for improvement. Do your best today.”
Descriptive text to assist in updating your resume
Education: Keep this at the top as a student or recent grad. GPA - add if over 3.5. Only include relevant
coursework that sets you apart from your peers. Do not include classes that every sophomore at your school has
taken. This will not set you apart.
YELLOW = Action Verbs: started w/ each resume bullet; Ex: collaborated (teamwork skills), managed
(leadership skills), improved (efficiency), scaled (outside the box thinking). Put present if current role
(Collaborate); if past, put -Ed (Collaborated)
BLUE = Hard Skills/Tools: Specific hard skills/tools/platforms based on job title's qualifications (esp. minimum
qualifications). Bottom of resume where "skills" are, I want to make sure they are throughout resume. Thought
process: if a recruiter were to see if I had X experience in my skills, where could they find it on my resume bullets?
Took a look at 5 job descriptions for target job to see which skills showed consistently
Header: Location as "City, State" (Full address = not needed), LinkedIn (linked), phone number, and email
(Optional: Work Portfolio, Personal Website, or sites like github or Internship on Demand)
PINK= impact metrics: these are numbers and percentages showcasing impact within past roles. Find these
metrics by tracking throughout your internship. Start by baselining (measuring current state) of all work
completed to drive great metrics.
GREEN = Impact statements before the number/percentages: This showcases if I improved, optimized, or made
an impact in a role.
ORANGE = Foundation skill highlights (i.e. soft skills) Ex: teamwork, problem solving, leadership, or
collaboration. These are much better highlighted in bullets rather than in your closing “skills” section.
