Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear
learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide
you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson
prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on
lessons in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on
completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or
your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to

activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.

are also provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based

What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here
to help you master Installing and Configuring Computer System
(Installing Drivers). The scope of this module permits it to be used in
many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow
the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read
them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now
using.
The module is divided into two lessons, namely:


Lesson 1 – Install and configure peripheral devices manually
Lesson 2 - Install and configure peripheral devices using
DriverPack Solution.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Install drivers and configure peripheral devices in accordance with
established installation procedures using a DriverPack Solution or
manually.
2. Check the quality of the work undertaken in accordance
with established procedures.

In the past module, you learn about h ow to install operating system
to a personal computer such as Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008
for Computer Systems Servicing.
The next lesson will help you install and configure peripheral devices
manually that will be used in performing the work plan.

What Is It
Device Driver
A device driver is a software application that is designed to enable
interaction with hardware devices. A h a r d w a r e d e v i c e o f y o u r
c o m p u t e r s y s t e m w i l l f a i l t o w o r k i f t h e n e e d e d d e v i c e d r i v e r is
not being installed.
A device driver typically communicates with the hardware
through the communications subsystem or computer bus to which the
hardware is connected. Device drivers are operating system-specific
and hardware- dependent. A device driver acts as a translator between a
hardware device and the program or operating system that uses it.
A device driver can sometimes be called a software driver.

Manually update drivers in Windows 7
Follow these steps to manually update Windows 7 drivers:
Step 1: Go to the ‘Start’ button and open the Menu option.
Step 2: Right-click ‘This PC’ (name of the computer) and select
‘Properties’.
Step 3: Select ‘Device Manager’.

Step 4: Click the > button to update some drivers.
Step 5: Right- c lick Update Driver Software > . You will get dual
options to select from, in order to update your driver.
Step 6: Select ‘Search automatically for updated driver software’.

The action will re-direct Windows to search in your system or
online the latest available driver software for the chosen device.
If the Windows cannot automatically find the driver, you will have to
search for the driver software on the device manufacturer’s website.
If none of the above methods work, you will have to reinstall the
driver.
Manually updating the driver is a tedious and time-consuming
process, as it requires you to be present for each step to carry forward
the procedure. Another alternative could be to download the driver
update software of Windows 7 from the Internet.

DriverPack Solution
DriverPack Solution is a free driver updater tool that finds the right
device drivers for your computer and then downloads and installs them for
you.
What’s In
In the past lesson you learn about installing and configuring
peripherals devices manually for computer systems servicing. The next
lesson will help you how to Install and configure peripheral devices using
DriverPack Solution that will be used in performing the work plan.

What Is It
DriverPack Solution has the following f e a t u r e s o f a driver updater tool:











It works with Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows
Vista, and Windows XP.
DriverPack Solution is a lightweight program that doesn't take
long to download and connects to the internet for free online driver
updates.
It's completely portable and can be launched from any folder or
hard drive or portable device, like a flash drive.
Restore points are created automatically before driver installations.
You can install all the needed drivers at once.
Several languages are supported.
Shows the driver version of the current driver as well as the
version of the one that it can download to replace it.
Can list all the drivers, even the ones that don't need updating.
The website lets you download specific sets of drivers,
like chipset, bluetooth, sound, video, etc. Once you've
downloaded, say, Bluetooth drivers, the archive has separate
folders for different manufacturers like Logitech, Motorola,
Realtek, Broadcom, etc.
There's an option in the settings to clear temporary files once
the necessary data has been used. This helps keep your hard
drive storage low.
DriverPack Notifier can be enabled to monitor your computer
for hardware or software failures.
DriverPack Solution Advantages and Disadvantages

Supports bulk downloads
It's portable, so installation isn't required
Lots of settings you can customize
Disadvantages:

Can't hide drivers from showing up in future scans
No option for scheduled scans
Sometimes seems slower than it should

Step 1: Open
DriverPack Solution from
its folder.
Step 2: Click “Cancel” to not
update DriverPack from the
internet.
Note: If you click “Ok”, it will
direct you to open a browser to
update your DriverPack
Solution.
Step 3: Wait for the DriverPack
to scan your computer for the
needed drivers.
Step 4: Click Install and update.

Step 5: In this window, select the “install drivers” radio button and click on “start
installation”. The checked check boxes are the software and drivers updated or
installed.
