What is different?
The Real ID has the shape of Nevada with a star cut out.

Why get a Real ID?
A Real ID can be used as identification for boarding aircraft,
or entering federal facilities when identification is required.

What is different?
Standard cards have the verbiage: NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES
printed on the top right corner. Per the Department of Homeland
Security, the standard card is still valid for identification but will not
be accepted for boarding an aircraft or entering Federal facilities
beginning 05/07/2025.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR REAL ID CARD OR STANDARD CARD
All Documents must be valid, unexpired, original, or certified copies that were issued in the United States, except for foreign
passports. The DMV does not accept photocopies.
Must present one document for proof of identity (If born outside of the U.S., proof of lawful status or citizenship must be presented), plus
any name change documents AND one document for proof of Social Security number (with complete number) AND two documents to
prove your Nevada residential address. Documents will be scanned for Real ID issuance. When renewing or updating your Nevada DL
or ID card and if born outside of the U.S., proof of lawful status or citizenship must be presented. Nevada residents who cannot meet
the proof of identity requirements for a driver’s license or ID may be able to obtain a Driver Authorization Card.
One (1) - Proof of Identity (Original/Certified Copy)
Documents with expiration dates must be valid/unexpired.
• U.S. Birth Certificate (state issued/ no hospital birth cert.)
• Certificate of Birth Abroad
• U.S. Passport or Passport card
• U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization
• Permanent Resident/Resident Alien card (I-551)
• Foreign Passport with temporary I-551 stamp
Standard Card only (Original -without additional proof of identity
document)
• Out-of-State REAL ID/ Enhanced Driver’s License,
Commercial Driver’s License, or Identification Card
Name Change Documents (Original/Certified copy)
If different from birth name, “proof for each if multiple changes”.

Note:
Residency documents must be the most current or
dated within 60 days. The Nevada physical address
must be included on the residency document. An
electronic copy of a residential document on an
applicant’s electronic device may be accepted
unless the original document must be provided to
the Department.
