RESUME
Dr. Merga Bayssa is Assistant Professor of Animal feeds and Dairy nutrition working in the school of Animal
and Range Sciences, Hawassa University, Ethiopia. Dr. Merga has completed a post-doctoral study on livestock
production, Climate change and food security from CLIFOOD project: a collaborative project of the University
of Hohenheim, Germany and Hawassa University, Ethiopia on December 2022.
Dr. Merga attended his Ph.D. in Animal feeds and nutrition, M.Sc. in Dairy animal nutrition, B.Sc. in
agriculture (Animal science) and Diploma in veterinary medicine. Dr Merga served at different academic and
administrative position in Hawassa University and other international organizations as regional animal health
coordinator of Dairy goats development program of FARM Africa project; regional coordinator of Eco-farm
project , Dry land coordination group (DCG) of Norwegian Church development program; head of the veterinary
laboratory of the department of Animal science, Hawassa University; head of the University livestock farm
enterprises of Hawassa University; team leader of the module of animal feeds, nutrition and range sciences and
Head of the registrar of the college of Agriculture, Hawassa University.
Dr. Merga received various international training on laboratory techniques in animal feeds analysis, laboratory
quality management systems, dairy production and management, livestock products processing, statistical
analysis systems (SAS, SPSS, Stata and R software) and advanced feed manufacturing technology.
Dr Merga is an active member of some national and local professional organizations and anonym reviewer of
three international journals. Dr. Merga published over 45 papers on peer reviewed journals, national workshops
and symposia, two books, three teaching materials, two technical notes and four national project reports. Dr
Merga involved as coordinator and researcher in 6 international and 10 national projects since last 20 years.

He participated in several professional consultancy services in the area of livestock production, Animal feeds
and nutrition, climate change and food security and laboratory quality management system.
Dr Merga advised and co-advised over 34 M.Sc. students in the area of animal nutrition and climate change.
Currently, Dr. Merga is advising 3 M.Sc. students, 2 PhD students and leading three local research projects
and two international projects. Dr. Merga is also the board member of Ethiopian veterinary drugs and animal
feed control authority and Volunteer member of Ethiopian standard Institute (ESI). In addition, Dr. Merga
is a committee member of the International Standard Organization (ISO) Global Directory Board on
Laboratory Quality systems since May 2021
