Dear Amy,
It was good to hear from you. You wanted
know about my best friend. Her name

years. We met because we belonged to
the same drama club and we were in a
s ow together. We got on really well from
the
the start.
Claudia is intelligent and creative, and
also great fun. We still share an interest in
drama and we also like the same films –
especially comedies. We often go to the
cinema together at the weekend. I’m sure
we’ll always be best friends!
All the best,
Gemma

My first time on stage
Last year I went on stage for the first time.
I was taking part in a musical and I was
very nervous because I had to sing an
important song and I didn’t know the
words very well.
The show went well at first, but then the
lights suddenly went out when I started to
sing. They soon came back on, but then
I completely forgot my words. Luckily, the
other members of the cast helped me,
and I finished my song.
In the end, I gave a good performance
and the audience clapped loudly. It was
definitely a difficult first time on stage!
4 marks: The student includes all three
of the points specified, but with some
language errors.
5 marks: The student includes all three of
the points specified, with only a few minor
language errors.
Note that the student’s answer should
be between 35 and 45 words. Deduct
a mark for answers that are significantly
over-length or under-length.

Tom was feeling happy as he walked to
school. His exams were nearly over and
he was looking forward to the school
holidays.
While he was walking past a bank on the
High Street, he suddenly heard shouting.
He looked in and saw two men who were
wearing masks. They were robbing the
bank! Tom quickly took out his phone
and called the police. Two minutes later,
the police arrived and ran into the bank.
The two men were arrested and the
police praised Tom for his quick thinking.
Tom continued to school and thought,
