Mahacharya Ji Sourabh J Sarkar the founder of KarmYog for the 21st Century is at the
forefront of nature-inspired designs through Biophilic Movement in India, championing
the integration of biophilic design principles into urban and rural contexts. As a Master
Biophilic Craftsman, he combines traditional Indian architectural wisdom with
contemporary international design and technology to create modular gardens in
spaces that foster lifelong learning and development. With 3 decades of experience in
creating educational experiences using media, and technology, he is now on a mission
to integrate Nature and Learning. He has a B Tech from IIT Kharagpur and a Master in
Arts in Media, Communications and Education from the University of Syracuse, New
York. His 15-year experience includes converting 8 acres of wasteland with garbage in
Newtown Kolkata to a beautiful KarmYog Green Village which was given a major award
by Tata Trusts.
Vision for Community Biophilic Experience
Mahacharya’Ji wants to create an entire culture within all rural and urban to deeply
integrate plants and other living beings ( pets, birds, marine life) into their living. Just as
a vibrant community has emerged for Sports and festivals like Durga Puja, Shri Sarkar’s
vision is to through the Biophilic Vatika integrate learning and development into the
fabric of the community particularly for children, senior citizens, homemakers, and
WFH residents. In addition for e.g, the Vatika is a community space for the human
resources development of all the support staff, helps, facility providers who serve the
urban residents daily in commercial and residential spaces. For e.g. within Uniworld
Complex we have created a Vatika with lush greenery, birds, and a learning space. The
Vatika itself is built of locally sourced sustainable materials such as Bamboo, Pine,
Dorma, and Jute. The vision is to create such Vatika’s across Uniworld to function as a
space of activities like learning, workshops, Yoga, and meetings in addition to just
