Topic: Modern communications mean that it’s no longer necessary to write letters. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? In the current 21st century, modern communication means have become more powerful than ever. Some people argue that their existence renders letter writing obsolete (makes writing letters old-fashioned). In my opinion, I would have to agree with the statement for a number of reasons. On the one hand, modern communication methods have become so useful that it is being used virtually everywhere. First and foremost, those methods offer (=bring) a faster and more convenient user experience. Since typing on a keyboard tends to be quicker and less tiring than handwriting, emails are naturally adopted by everyone. Nowadays, for example, individuals and businesses use emails for all kinds of needs, from announcing an interview or changing a scheduled meeting, to informing a company trip. Another benefit would be the amazing speed to send and receive information. As the Internet is widespread on an international scale, sending information to any corner of the world would be done within seconds. As a result, people are now able to be up to date on anything, from business news to the entertainment world, as they happen. On the other hand, writing letters, though still has some perks (=benefit =advantage), is believed to be outdated today. Firstly, It would take quite some time to finish a letter. In order to make a letter readable, one would have to carefully handwrite their content, whereas typing is faster to input and edit. Not to mention, one has to write a new letter if the previous one has too many mistakes. Secondly, It would take even much longer to receive letters. Due to the fact that you have to wait for letters to be sent, the waiting time could vary based on the locations of senders and receivers, meaning the greater the distance, the longer the time. Consequently, the receivers might have to wait for at least a few days for differences in regions, or even weeks for differences in nations. In conclusion, even though letters still carry some emotional connection, I believe that modern communication means are capable of doing the same thing and even better.
