Dear Students,
You are at a juncture in life where casualness of attitude must be replaced by
professionalism. That’s why you are here as part of the Somaiya Family & Culture
by getting your education under a variety of courses at the different Somaiya Colleges
& Institutes.
There is No Doubt at all in our minds that your versatile personalities will find success
with flying colors in your life, especially from all that you learn here to be the best in
your profession of choice. But to reach there, one needs to understand the importance
of discipline - in all walks of life (including your personal space).
While we value your freedom to appear Casual, we would also like you to Project a
Professional attitude through your appearance and mannerism while on Campus, and
wherever you are seen as the face of the institute and Somaiya Vidyavihar.
The dress code in India, especially in the educational environment, is typically guided
by cultural norms, respect for tradition, and maintaining a professional and disciplined
environment. For that we need to follow a certain Code of Conduct that conveys
professionalism in attitude and appearance. Though it should be maintained at all
times, it holds especially true for all Hostelites whenever you visit the Hostel office
or come down in Lobby. We expect you to keep the following points in mind:
1. Modesty: Clothing should be modest and not revealing. Avoid wearing clothes that
are too Tight, Transparent, Expose too much skin, Off Shoulder Tops, Spaghettis Top,
Low-cut tops, Crop Tops, Short Skirts above Knee Length, Shorts Pants, Torn Jeans,
Tops with Offensive words/ Pictures/ Slogans. Skirts should be below Knee length
only.
2. Neatness and Cleanliness: Maintain a neat and clean appearance by wearing wellironed clothes without any stains, tears, or excessive wrinkles. Avoid wearing clothes
with offensive or provocative slogans or graphics..
3. Professionalism: Dressing professionally is important, especially during
presentations, seminars, or internships. This includes wearing formal business attire
like suits, blazers, or formal dresses.
4. Cultural Sensitivity: Be mindful of the cultural diversity in India. Respect the
customs and traditions of different regions and religions. Avoid wearing clothes that
may be considered offensive or disrespectful to specific cultures or religious beliefs.
Note: If you do not abide by the above guidelines, you could be subjected to
disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by the Management.
