Positions: PhD – MAE23/24XC
May 17th, 2023
Dear Dr. Declan Nolan,
I have previously worked at CROWN Cork & Seal (Plant 257) as Supervisor Technical Services (EHS Coordinator) in
Canada. With time, I have developed keen interest in manufacturing field related to food industry and automotive for
which I would like to apply for PhD entitled “Addition of ammonia fuel as an approach to reduce soot and greenhouse
gas emissions in combustion systems” at Queen’s University-Belfast. I want to pursue further studies and grow as an
engineer by gaining technical experience and knowledge within your department in near future. The project details
related to environmental impact, team approaches to problem solving, and technical solutions to problems impress me.
I have the ability to meet your high standards for quality and integrity and it is my hope that my following strengths will
contribute to your department strategy for the future.
Over the course of four years at Queen’s University, I have participated in numerous extracurricular activities ranging
from student run bodies to technology conferences. These activities have developed my leadership, communication and
interpersonal skills which I hope to apply to my professional career. I have taken all mechanical engineering courses
which include graphics, designing, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, vibrations, instrumentation and
measurement, materials, automatic control systems, manufacturing, and mathematics. Moreover, I can analyze
thermodynamic and turbo machinery processes, carry out pressure calculations between various fluids, fluid flow
analysis and have machine shop experience with lathe and CNC machine. Beside mechanical knowledge, I can also
analyze DC and AC circuits and have technical knowledge of electric motors and generations; power generation
improvements, amplifiers and digital circuits and devices.
I have worked in various work environments and gained technical knowledge as well as a committed attitude towards
work and team related tasks. I would like to bring to your attention my position at CROWN Cork & Seal where I was
exposed to great engineering challenges and worked on different projects and complex analysis for daily trouble
shooting to keep up desired operations goals. While working as Supervisor Technical Services at CROWN Metal Packaging
Canada LP, I took care of facility and production support equipment and ensured they run with minimal downtime. I also
worked on energy conservation project for the plant which included lighting fixture replacements; air consumption
reduction and compressor upgrades to meet desired efficient production at reduced cost. I learned about different types
of mouldings and industrial processes related to manufacturing, assembly, designing and maintenance at different work
environments. I have a strong engineering background including heavy equipment operating experience as well as
machine shop experience and EHS. Furthermore, I have also partaken in a wide variety of designed-based research
projects ranging from residential wind turbine research to proposing designs for Kingston’s dilapidated sewers. These
courses and projects have developed my leadership, communication and design skills, which I will apply at my
professional employment.
As per my PhD research work, I can surely be utilising the opportunity of teaching students in undergrad along with Labs
and Tutorials. I good could be really good resource in the department in checking their assignments and exams as per
SOP provided by the Senior Faculty and Supervisors. I have enclosed for your review, a brief resume which outlines my
experience and skills and I would welcome the opportunity of an interview with you at your convenience for this PhD
project.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Saqib Sanaullah
