As I was watching my mentor teacher give and correct homework taught me a lot about
how to set homework effectively. Homework is important because it helps learners to
understand and practice what they were taught in class. My mentor teacher would
spend time explaining the homework, why the learners needed to do it, and how it
related to what he was teaching them.
I learned that the homework should match the learners’ interests, if you give them
homework that has their interest it will make them more interested in doing it. My
mentor teacher would use pictures, examples, and discussions to do the homework
more interesting so that when learners know how the homework relates to their lives,
they become more interested in it.
Different homework needs their methods for preparing them as he wanted the kids to
learn new words about Internet Technologies, he would use those words in a sentence
when he gives an example so that they understand what it means and can remember
it. Homework can help learners to prepare for upcoming lessons.
My mentor would give the learners feedback on how they did on their homework and
encourage the rest who did not do well that they can do better next time. He would
write comments on their books while marking the homework, and that taught me that
I need to give my learners feedback and help them understand better because they
are not the same so others need more time to understand what is required of them.
