The connection between cause and effect takes place in time. However, there are different
views as to the co-existence between the two (Brasa, 2016, pg.16).
On view states that the cause always preceded the effect. After some time, the effect appears. The
cause and effect will then co-exist for a period, until the cause dies out and becomes the cause of
something else. Meanwhile, another view states that the cause and effect are always simultaneous
(Brasas, 2016, pg.16). For example in pressing an elevator button from the inside does not
automatically close the doors. There is a certain amount of time before the command can be
interpreted by the system, which is the closes the door.
It is usual that there is a clear and present relationship between cause and effect. However, the
keyword here is “usual”. It is not all the time that effects and consequences can be seen after
activating the cause (Brasas, 2016, pg 17).
Instruction: In this activity, you are going to cut out an article that shows causes and consequences of
a trend in terms of Technology, Education, Social Media, Fashion, and Medicine . Paste your work in
your journal. Write your interpretation about the article. And, answer the questions that follow.
7
Processing Question:
1. Discuss the content of the article in a form of a news casting
2. What are the changes taken place for the past 3 years in terms of the different global trends?
3. After knowing the cause and consequences of a trend, how do you feel about it?
4. How will you apply the message to your day to day life?

Show that you have learned something by doing this activity.
Practice Task #1 Fishbone Diagram
Trend watching is a big part of innovation work. For us,
it’s important to distinguish between what’s trendy and a
real trend.
Source: Flat Fishbone Diagram for
PowerPoint slidemodel.com·In stock
According to a futurist Amy Webb, trends share 4 common characteristics:
1. Trends are driven by basic human needs. It’s not just about coming up with a cool idea.
2. Trends are timely but they tend to persist over long periods of time. Which is why you see the
same trends if you scan reports from 10 years ago to today.
3. Trends evolve and they emerge, they’re not static. Trends have dependencies, they evolve as
they interact with consumers, businesses, government and regulation.
4. Trends have dependencies and multiple points of convergence. They tend to materialize from
the fringes, not in the mainstream; which is why they catch people and businesses by surprise
(Jorge, 2018).
Instruction: Explain the characteristics of a trend through the given graphic organizer: Fishbone
