Smart Fridges
Fridges are becoming clever. With 1
internet
connection and 2
computer, fridges know how
much food you have got and how much you need;
they can give you 3
recipe you want and even
connect to 4
oven then tell it how hot it needs
to be and how much time it takes to cook your food.
How does it work? The fridge’s computer knows what
you have got by scanning the barcodes on the items
you put in to it. It can tell how much food you have
got – how much milk you have got, if you’ve got
5
eggs, how many tomatoes you have got or
when there isn’t 6
butter. 7
fridges can
even talk to you. Ask ’Is there 8
salad?’ and
the fridge tells you ’Yes, there is 9
salad.’ or
’No, there isn’t 10
.’ For people on 11
diet,
the fridge tells you what you can or can’t eat –
perhaps you can’t have 12
meat or cakes –
unfortunately the fridge knows it and tells you!

The first time lightning hit Roy Sullivan it burned his
right leg and le a hole in his shoe. On the seventh
time lightning hit Roy it burned his head, chest and
stomach. Lightning hit Roy more times than any
other person. During an electrical storm lightning
can travel from the storm to the ground, it can hit
another thing then travel to the side and hit a person
or it can hit the ground, travel through the earth
and hit you. So what should you do when there is an
electrical storm? Firstly, to stop lightning hitting you,
you shouldn’t stay outside. Find a building to get
inside or get inside a car. If there is no building near
you, you should get onto the ground, curl up on your
knees and put your feet together. You shouldn’t lie on
the ground and you should move away from water.
If you are in a swimming pool, get out quickly. Never
put your umbrella up – getting wet is better than
being hit by lightning. Don’t stand under a tree –
25% of people hit by lightning were under a tree. But
the best thing is to watch the weather and not go out
when a storm is coming.
