The learner is able to recognize and represent lines in real objects and designs or drawings and
complete symmetrical designs
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) and Objectives
Recognizes and draws a point, line, line segment and ray. (M3GE-IIIe-11)
Recognizes and draws parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines. (M3GE-IIIf-12.1)
ENGAGE ( 8 mins.)
Review:
Look carefully at the pictures, match the equivalent fractions by writing the
letter of the correct answer on the space provided before each number.

Using points and lines
Points and lines
Ask the learners the following:
a. Where do figures come from as described in the poem?
b. How do you think figures are formed?
EXPLORE ( 17 mins)
Jordan plays dart game with her younger sister Lara. They are playing who can
hit the center of the board to get the highest score. After throwing three darts
for each of them, Jordan gets the highest score. They shake hand with his sister
as a sign of sportsmanship.
Job cards,
Powerpoint
presentation or
charts and pictures
Ask the learners the following:
a. How will you describe the figure where the darts landed?
b. How many points are marked?
c. If you play darts, what would you like to name your point?
d. How are points named?
A dot represents a point. It can be named with letters.
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 2
The teacher will divide the class into six. Each group will be given an
illustration and questions to answer.
Group 1:
Answer the following:
a. What have you noticed from point A to point C?
b. What can you see at both ends?
c. What do you call this figure?
Group 2:
Answer the following:
a. What have you noticed from point B to point C?
b. What can you see at both ends?
c. What do you call this figure?
Group 3:
Look at the part of the line from
point E to point O.
Ask the learners the following:
a.
What can you say about this
part?
b.
Can you call this part as a
ray? Why?
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 3
Group 4:
Answer the following:
a. What is formed when the horizontal and vertical
lines meet? (Square corner)
b. What kind of line is represented when horizontal
and vertical lines meet and form a square?
(Perpendicular lines)
Group 5:
a.
b.
c.
d.
Answer the following:
Look at line AB and line CD. What do
we call these lines?
Compare them, how do you describe
the horizontal lines?
How will you describe the gap / space
between the two lines?
If we are going to extend the
horizontal lines, do you think they will meet at a certain point? Why?
Group 6:
Answer the following:
a.
Do the lines form perpendicular
lines? Why?
b.
How can you describe the two lines?
c.
What do you call the point where
the two lines meet?
EXPLAIN ( 8mins)
The teacher will discuss the following
Powerpoint
presentation or
charts and pictures
Line is a figure with two arrow heads. It can extend indefinitely in both
directions. A line can be named using the two points.
A ray has one endpoint and an arrowhead which extends indefinitely to one
direction. Start naming the ray from one endpoint.
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 4
A line segment has two endpoints. It can never extend indefinitely to any
direction.
Perpendicular lines form a square corner. These lines
intersect and form four right angles.
Parallel lines are lines that do not meet. The gap /
distance between them is equal.
Intersecting lines meet at a common point
called point of intersection but they do not
necessarily form 90 degrees.
ELABORATE ( 13 mins.)
A. Identify if the figure is a line, line segment, ray, parallel lines, intersecting
lines or parallel lines. Write your answers inside the box.
Powerpoint
presentation or
charts and pictures
B. Encircle the answer in each item using your crayons.
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 5
1. Which of the following letters has parallel lines?
2. Which of the following pictures show an intersecting line?
3. Which letter has perpendicular lines?
4. Which of the following letters form intersecting lines?
5. Which of the following pictures does not form perpendicular lines?
C. Draw the following inside the box.
1. Line
2. Ray
3. Line segment
4. Perpendicular lines
5. Parallel lines
EVALUATE ( 12 mins. )

Assignment (2 minutes)
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 7
Name and draw pictures of objects that show line, line segment, ray,
perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and intersecting lines that you can find at
home or everywhere.
